Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe
December 12
The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be celebrated on Monday,
December 11th, starting with the Novena at 7:00pm, and followed by the Mass in her honor, which will be musically accompanied by Mariachis .
continue the celebration in the School Hall.
All are invited.
My dear Parishioners,
On this last day of the liturgical year as we celebrate the Feast of
Christ the King of the Universe, it makes sense that, following the
lead of United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, we dedicate
today as a Day of Prayer for Persecuted Christians. Among the
most deserving of our prayers are our sisters and brothers in the
faith who are suffering—and many among them dying — for the
faith. Christ, King of the Universe, is also the Good Shepherd who
reaches out to rescue those members of his flock who are injured
by persecution, torture and abuse. While his Kingdom is not of
this world, as he reminded Pilate, it is in this world in the persons
who acknowledge him as their Lord and Savior.
It is estimated that, throughout the world, 200 million Christians
are being persecuted right now, and 450 are killed for their faith
every day. The Middle East, portions of North and Central Africa,
and the Far East are the main areas of the world where so much of
this is going on. But there are other places as well.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus forcefully reminds us of our responsibili-
ties toward our neighbor, with special emphasis on those who are
most easily forgotten or ignored. We must aid them surely by
prayer but also by action—through donations through Catholic
Relief Society but also by reminding our federal government to
work more strenuously for peace and justice in the lands where
persecutions of Christians flourish and to widen the way for refu-
gees from such persecutions to be welcomed into our own country.
If you want to learn more about the persecution of our fellow
Christians today, go to: www.usccb.org/middle-east-christians or
