Classroom Expectations:

• -Be respectful:  respect yourself, the CHHS faculty/staff, your peers, the classroom, and the things provided to you. Respect also the school rules. No hats, food, or drink in the classroom (except water). Cell phones and other electronic devices must be off and not visible during class unless otherwise directed by the teacher.

• -Be responsible:  this includes completing your homework, bringing your math spiral and a pencil to class, getting your makeup work if you know that you are going to be absent, and monitoring your own actions at all times. Make wise choices.

• Pass the TAKS test and EOC.

Supplies:

• Pencils! Assignments to turn in must be done in pencil or NOT accepted.

• Manila Folder• 3 ring binder• Dividers• Notebook paper• Graph paper• TI Graphing Calculator (optional)

Grading Policy:

• Homework/Daily Assignments 15%• Quizzes (pop and/or announced) 25%• Tests 60%

Notebooks will be checked once each six weeks for a quiz grade.

Assignments/Homework:• All homework MUST be printed off my

web site; and completed showing all steps/work in pencil.

• All homework will be checked for accuracy and/or completion each class.

• Work must be shown in order to receive full credit.

• NO LATE WORK IS ACCEPTED.• Your lowest daily grade each six

weeks will be dropped.

Quizzes:

• If you are not successful on a quiz, you should consider coming to tutorials before the test.

Tests:

• No retake tests will be given.

Extra Credit:

• No extra credit assignments will be given or taken for a grade.

• However, there will be built-in opportunities for extra credit points on some assignments/quizzes/tests.

• You are NOT eligible to do any extra credit unless ALL homework is completely done.

Procedures for Being Absent:

• Making up absent work is your responsibility. You are to turn in any work that was due prior to your absence when you return. Check the website to see what you missed. Turn it in to me (with proper heading) within the deadline as described in your student handbook.

• If a student is absent the day that a test is taken or a long-term project is due, the student will take the test or turn in the project the first day he/she returns to class.

Academic Integrity:

• The commitment to academic integrity rests upon four pillars: honesty, respect, responsibility, and trust. The highest standards of honesty must apply to students’ actions at CHHS. Any act of dishonesty reflects upon a student and affects the entire school community.

– Copying and/or offering answers on homework, quizzes, or tests is a violation of the code. This includes verbally, in written form, or by electronic means.

– The responsibility of the violation occurs on the party who copies as well as the party who offers the work.

• All campus-wide policies as stated by the AIC (Academic Integrity Committee) will be followed.

Entering the Room:

– come in quietly – get your supplies that you will need

for the day– get out homework– begin warm-up

Need a Pencil?:

– Feel free to sharpen your pencil as long as it doesn’t interrupt the class.

– If you do not have a pencil your options are to borrow one or buy one from me for 25 cents. (honor system; in the green box)

Questions?:

– When you have question during class, ask yourself this:•Is it appropriate? Is it appropriate to ask at this time? If the answer is yes, ask away.

– When you have a question while you are working:•Consult with at least 3 sources: your notes, your textbook, and another student BEFORE asking the teacher.

Homework:

– Homework should be out on your desk when you come to class.

– I will come around and check it during your warm-up time OR take it up after question-answering time.

– Remember…no late work is accepted.

What to do When You’re Done:

Look to see if someone else needs your help.

If you don’t have anything to do, find something to do that is constructive and not disturbing others.

Leaving the Room:

– No one may leave the room without permission.

– If you need to use the restroom, feel free to ask for permission when I am not teaching.

Have a Concern?

• Let’s discuss it at an appropriate time. This might be at a time when I am not teaching. Feel free to see me during tutorials at 8:15 or during advisory.

Rules and Consequences:1. I will treat you with respect so that you will

know how to treat me.

2. Feel free to do anything that doesn’t cause a problem for anyone else (including the teacher).

3. If you cause a problem, I will ask you to solve it.

4. If you cannot solve the problem or choose not to, I will do something.

5. What I do will depend on the special person and the special situation.

6. If you feel something is unfair, tell me, “I’m not sure that’s fair,” and we will talk after class or after school.

How to be successful this year.

• Do every problem on all homework’s.• Start homework on the day that it was

assigned. If you have questions, come in for tutorials the very next AM.

• After every quiz go over all mistakes for understanding.

• Re-read notes for vocabulary. Highlight anything that you do not understand and come in to tutorials.

• Do quizlet.

• Make a practice test using the test outline. Do it correctly in less than 50 minutes.

• Get phone numbers of other students that are successful and study together.

• Print out the power points and bring to class. You can listen more than write.

• Make note cards

• Highlight in your notes when I say this is “important” or past students did not do this correctly, be sure not to do this. Study these again the night before and the morning of the test.

• Do the reviews until you can do and understand every problem.

• Check the web sites I have listed on my web site and work on-line with extra problems.

• Check on the web for other sites to teach, including YouTube and Itube University. (tell me if you find other good one please)

Homework:

Bring back yoursyllabus signature page and binder

with dividers and notebook paper by TOMORROW

for a HW grade of 100.
