Brazilian food is as diverse as its people and you can try new tastes in different places of the country. Some plates are very famous worldwide and are really worth trying. The formation of Brazilian culture in its various aspects, resulted from the integration of different cultures: Indigenous, Portuguese colonizers, Africans, as well as many other immigrants who settled here. It's a land of many people, rich in history and full of mysteries. FESTIVALS Some examples of festivals that originated from the miscegenation in Brazil are: Carnival (this event usually happens in February in which people wear colorful costumes and dance samba); Parintins Folklore Festival (a festival that takes place in Amazonas with so many typical dances, being Boi Bumba the most important). June Parties (people dance Quadrilha and eat typical food) Rock in Rio (Rock festival that brings together national and international artists and it lasts a week). SPORTS CORNER The most popular sport in Brazil is football. Pelé and Ronaldinho are well known players. It's a national passion but certainly not the only one. Other modalities include: capoeira, handball, volleyball, skateboarding among others. So, when it comes to sports in Brazil it's not only about the dream of becoming a professional soccer player. BRAZILIAN MUSIC There are many musical expressions in Brazil. The most famous are: Samba: It started in Rio de Janeiro in 1929 when the first radio station was opened in the city. Important samba singers include Zeca Pagodinho and Alcione. Bossa nova: It´s a style that combines samba rhythms with elements of jazz. One of the most popular songs is “The girl from Ipanema” by Tom Jobim. The first song was recorded in the 50s, and quickly became a huge hit in Brazil. Sertanejo: It´s a type of music that has its origin in the south part of the country. It's one of the most played type of music today in Brazil, especially among young brazilians.
