Scheduling Process

• Teacher Recommendations – Reviewed by students and parents

through Parent Portal and a paper copy will be mailed home

• Counselor meets individually with students to schedule proposed courses

• Optional – parent conference with counselor

Each student must complete:

• A minimum of 140 credits– A full year course = 5 credits– A ½ year course = 2.5 credits

Exceptions

• A full year science lab course = 6 credits

• A full year PE class or elective class will have one credit deducted if the course is missed 1 day per week due to a science lab. Course = 4 credits

• A failed course = 0 credits• No credit given for study halls

• A student must register for a minimum of 35 credits per year (7 courses).

• A student must maintain a minimum of 4 academic courses.

• A student must maintain good attendance.

– A student cannot have more than 17 unexcused absences per class per year.

– A student can lose credit for excessive absences which can keep you from graduating on time.

During your high school career, you will be required to take and pass:• 4 English courses• 3 Social Studies courses

– World History, US History 1, and US History 2

• 3 Mathematics courses – Algebra 1 and 2 additional years of

rigorous Math (typically Geometry and Algebra 2)

• 3 Science courses – Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

• 1 World Language course– Spanish, French, German

• 4 Physical Education and Health courses• 6 Electives

• Visual & Performing Arts – Studio Foundations (Art), Concert Band,

Concert Choir, Drama in Literature, Video Production I

• 21st Century Life & Careers– Social Media Marketing, Intro to Business

Management, Microsoft Excel, Sports Management, Intro to Computer Programming, Intro to Web Design, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Graphic Arts, Visual Communication Technology, Wood I, Video Production I, Clothing Arts, Fashion, E-Textiles,Engineering Concepts, and Robotics

• Financial Literacy– Personal Financial Management

*Video can count as a Visual and Performing Art or a 21st Century Life & Career, however, the class cannot count in both areas at the same time

● GPA and Class Rank are determined once final grades are computed for the school year.

● GPA and Class Rank are cumulative (grades 9-12).

● GPA is calculated based on final number grades.

● Once the GPA’s are computed, they are ranked from highest to lowest in number order.

● The highest number is the Number 1 student in the class.

• NHS eligibility begins junior year.

• You must have a 90.000 or higher grade point average to be considered.

• Selection is based upon:– Scholarship– Character– Leadership– Service to school and

• Athletes who think they may be going to college on a Division I or Division II scholarship must take at least 16 core courses in order to be eligible for scholarship money.

• The NCAA Clearinghouse must evaluate a potential student athlete’s academics to ensure one is eligible.

• In order to participate in extracurricular activities you must be passing 7 courses.

• If you have a study hall you must be passing all of your courses.

• Eligibility is checked after the 2nd and 4th marking periods and is based on the semester average and final average for the year.

• Not available at Kittatinny for high school students.

• Usually offered at Mount Olive High School, Lenape Valley High School, or online through Educere at an approximate cost of $350 per course.

• Some academic courses and physical education courses are usually offered.

• If you pass a class in summer school that you failed for the year, you could become eligible for Fall extracurricular activities.
