Here comes the parade!

Can you believe St. Patrick’s day is right around the corner? It seems like this season has flown by, like members of a marching band on a parade route. Parades, no matter how big or small, take countless hours of planning and preparation. From setting

the theme to the parade route - someone has to be in charge of the logistics of it all. Some parades take months to plan. Some are planned for the next year immediately after they are over, and even some planners could work on a parade years in advance.

That’s where I find myself right now. The 2012/2013 season isn’t quite over yet, but I am anxious to begin working on the 2013/2014 season. I’m sure many of you know what I mean, as you get ready to say your goodbyes to friends, old and new, and pack your bags to head on your next journey, wherever that might take you.

It seems St. Patrick’s Day is the unofficial last ‘hurrah’ of the season. As you can see in our March calendar, activities dwindle some as we near the end of the month. What many of you don’t know is that the Rio Grande Valley is full of things to do throughout the off-season, and there are quite a few of you who know what I’m talking about. See, here in Texas, we sure love our Winter Texans, and we feel the same way about our elite group of what Welcome Home RGV considers our ‘Converted Texans’.

So for those of you who stick around after the St. Patty’s day parade, we hope you will join us for our Converted Texan Corral, Tuesday April 9. We’ll have a conversion ceremony and ask you to raise your right hand and renounce your allegiance to all things non-Texan. We’ll officially kick off the off season with a special events calendar just for you.

I hope that you, too are planning for your return to the Rio Grande Valley for the 2013/2014 season. Whether you plan on spending your summer back home, traveling across country, or spending it right here in the Rio Grande Valley - we wish you the very best. It is our privilege to be of service to you, and we look forward to enjoying the parade with you.
