How joyful it is, to celebrate the good news of God’s love!
We are called to be Easter people!
Risen Lord Jesus, as the rising sun scatters the darkness,
Let fear and the memory of failure be scattered from our souls;
That we may live in your glorious freedom as the children of God.
Empower us to rise up into your resurrection light.
Risen Lord Jesus, immerse us into your resurrection light.
Empower us to trust in you above all else,
Hope in you above all else,
Seek you in all things,
Find you in every place,
Meet you among all people,
Know you through everything,
And love you above all else. Amen.
*Prayer of the Day
Lord God, by your power you raised Jesus from the dead. Death is conquered

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

First Lesson - Isaiah 40:1-8 1 “Comfort, O comfort My people,” says your God. 2 “Speak kindly to Jerusalem; And
call out to her, that her warfare has ended, that her iniquity has been removed, that
she has received of the LORD’S hand double for all her sins.” 3 A voice is calling, “Clear
the way for the LORD in the wilderness; Make smooth in the desert a highway for our
God. 4 Let every valley be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; And let
the rough ground become a plain, and the rugged terrain a broad valley; 5 Then the
glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all flesh will see it together; For the mouth of the
LORD has spoken.” 6 A voice says, “Call out.” Then he answered, “What shall I call out?”
All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. 7 The grass withers, the
flower fades, when the breath of the LORD blows upon it; Surely the people are grass. 8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.
Second Lesson - 2 Corinthians 4:1-14 1 Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we received mercy, we do not lose heart, 2 but we have renounced the things hidden because of shame, not walking in
craftiness or adulterating the word of God, but by the manifestation of truth
commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 And even if
our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 in whose case the god of
this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light
of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For we do not preach
ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our
hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 7 But
we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power
will be of God and not from ourselves; 8 we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed;
perplexed, but not despairing; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not
destroyed; 10 always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of
Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 11 For we who live are constantly being
delivered over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested
in our mortal flesh. 12 So death works in us, but life in you. 13 But having the same spirit of
faith, according to what is written, “I BELIEVED, THEREFORE I SPOKE,” we also believe,
therefore we also speak, 14 knowing that He who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also
with Jesus and will present us with you.
Matthew 28:11-20 11 Now while they were on their way, some of the guard came into the city and
reported to the chief priests all that had happened. 12 And when they had assembled
with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the
soldiers, 13 and said, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away
while we were asleep.’ 14 And if this should come to the governor’s ears, we will win
him over and keep you out of trouble.” 15 And they took the money and did as they
had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jews, and is to this
day. 16 But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus
had designated. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. 18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me
in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching
them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the
end of the age.”
Pastor’s Ponderings . . .
1. What motivates people to lie?
2. Because of the empty tomb, what are the possibilities of what happened?
3. What would the chief priests and Jews gain by lying about Jesus’
resurrection? The soldiers? Satan?
4. Why don’t some see the truth? Why don’t some see that the grace of God
saves us?
5. As we unpack the truth that Jesus is raised from the dead, how does this
fact change reality? Our perception of truth? Our view of the future?
6. In what way is the truth of Jesus’ resurrection ‘good news?’
7. Do people’s doubts change the truth?
8. In light of the truth, what is our calling?
