*Invocation
We meet in the strong name of our God,
We praise you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
*Litany
How joyful it is, to celebrate the good news of God’s love!
We are called to be Easter people!
Risen Lord Jesus, as the rising sun scatters the darkness,
Let fear and the memory of failure be scattered from our souls;
That we may live in your glorious freedom as the children of God.
Empower us to rise up into your resurrection light.
Risen Lord Jesus, immerse us into your resurrection light.
Empower us to trust in you above all else,
Hope in you above all else,
Seek you in all things,
Find you in every place,
Meet you among all people,
Know you through everything,
And love you above all else. Amen.
*Prayer of the Day
Lord God, many times as we walk the journey of faith, we miss your Presence
with us. We lose sight of You. We become spiritually blind. In our time of

and restore our hope. By Your grace, continue to use us to shine with Your love.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

First Lesson - Romans 5:1-5 1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord
Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this
grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only this,
but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about
perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within
our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Second Lesson - Ephesians 1:15-23 15 For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among
you and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease giving thanks for you, while making
mention of you in my prayers; 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. 18 I
pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the
hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are
in accordance with the working of the strength of His might 20 which He brought about
in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the
heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and
every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And He
put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the
church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
Gospel - Luke 24:13-27 13 And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus,
which was about seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 And they were talking with each other
about all these things which had taken place. 15 While they were talking and
discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them. 16 But their eyes
were prevented from recognizing Him. 17 And He said to them, “What are these words
that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” And they stood still,
looking sad. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, “Are You the
only one visiting Jerusalem and unaware of the things which have happened here in
these days?” 19 And He said to them, “What things?” And they said to Him, “The things
about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of
God and all the people, 20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to
the sentence of death, and crucified Him. 21 But we were hoping that it was He who
was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things
happened. 22 But also some women among us amazed us. When they were at the
tomb early in the morning, 23 and did not find His body, they came, saying that they

had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive. 24 Some of those who were
with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him
they did not see.” 25 And He said to them, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe
in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer
these things and to enter into His glory?” 27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the
prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.
1. What expectations does faith create?
2. Have you ever been disappointed in life? Disappointed with God?
3. Has there been a time or a moment in your life when hope has died?
What happens when we lose hope? What helped restore it?
4. How does Jesus reveal Himself to us today?
5. What are the “eyes of faith?” How do we make sure they are open?
6. In what ways can restored hope create positive expectation of blessing?
7. What is the emotional effect of knowing that Jesus always walks with us
on the journey of faith?
Welcome back, Faith family! Psalm 133 says, “Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brothers (and sisters) to
dwell together in unity!” It is good to gather in Jesus’ name to worship together
again. But, we also rejoice that we can worship via ‘live-stream’ for those not yet able
to come to the church building for worship.
As we resume public worship, we will follow CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Thank you for refraining from handshaking, hugs, and physical contact. Thank you
for wearing masks as we come together for worship. Thank you for remembering that
the north end of the building, the kitchen, and the nursery are closed until further
notice.
We know that within the Faith family we have a variety of passionately held
convictions on Faith’s re-opening. For some, it has not been soon enough. For others,
it’s still too soon, and there’s worry that we will inadvertently harm others and
spread the virus. Also, some are troubled by the request to wear masks during our
time together. Wearing of masks is not to protect yourself,
rather to protect others.
Perhaps it is evident of a good compromise that almost
everyone is unhappy about some aspect of the council’s
decision. But, these decisions were not reached easily or
capriciously. Council met weekly, discussing all aspects of
this pandemic. Within council we had differing
perspectives, however, after praying for the Spirit’s
guidance, the decisions have been made. So, we move
forward together with the attitude of Christ and with joy!
Our unity is not because of our commonly held convictions
about the response to the Corona Virus. Rather, our unity
is the gift of the Spirit. All of us are the recipients of
Christ’s grace. We are the body of Christ, and Christ is the
head of His body, the church. So, though we may hold
differing opinions, our mutual goals will always be: unity
in the Spirit, peace, mutual respect, listening to
understand one another, and love which considers the
needs of others before self.
Each of you is precious and important to God, and to the
body of Christ called Faith. Thanks for living patiently,
respectfully, and graciously with one another in the love of
Christ.
Together in Jesus’ name,
