RESILIENCYWhat is your definition of resiliency?

Resiliency is our ability to recover from

a challenge and to adapt and learn in

the face of adversity.

Three Coping StrategiesWays we can work through a tough time and come out the other end stronger.

Identify with your own unique sense of “Grit”-where do you get your

sense of purpose?

Recognize what you have control over and work toward acceptance

of what is out of your control.

Learn about resources available to you and seek them out and come

up with a plan for you and your family!

Grit and Gratitude

What is your idea of grit?

Write down some examples and share in

our chat how you overcame an obstacle

in your life. Gratitude can grow in

tough times when we focus on the

silver lining.

Dr. Angela Duckworth defines grit:

“Grit is about having what some researchers call an “ultimate concern”. A goal you care about so much that it organizes and gives meaning to almost everything you do.”

Page 9: Welcome D7 Families! · Write in the center of poster/cork board: FAMILY-Grit and Gratitude Invite family members to write a word, sentence, or draw a picture that comes to mind each

“The key is holding steadfast to that goal”.

Family Activity:5 minute brainstorm:

How does our family get back up again after a challenge?

What does grit mean to our family?

Who do we look to for guidance and modeling?

How do we look past an obstacle and remain hopeful?

What is your equation for Grit?

Grit = Purpose + Motivation +

Positive Mindset

Page 13: Welcome D7 Families! · Write in the center of poster/cork board: FAMILY-Grit and Gratitude Invite family members to write a word, sentence, or draw a picture that comes to mind each

Purpose keeps us moving forward

For most of us, purpose is a very motivating force that

connects us to a greater good.

Our drive to connect with and serve others promotes

not only the well being of others and our

communities, but also our own well being.

Page 14: Welcome D7 Families! · Write in the center of poster/cork board: FAMILY-Grit and Gratitude Invite family members to write a word, sentence, or draw a picture that comes to mind each

Focus on what you have control overWhen we focus on those things that we have

control over, such as setting a goal for ourselves in

achieving something important like learning a new

skill, we improve our sense of purpose and we gain

a real sense of security.
