Adjustment period It is important for parents of young children to talk to them about camp. Let them know they will have fun, meet new people, and that their parents will come for them at the end of the day. This is less of a concern for older campers. Like any new experience, first time Squire Campers and their parents need an adjustment period. Campers make friends quickly with other campers and instructors. There is always time needed to emotionally settle in. Schools have an entire year and thus a continuity of years. Children handle these new social dynamics well, but need some time to get over their nervousness. Parents also need time to get to know us and gain confidence in the program. Please understand that our only concern is providing a safe, happy experience for child and parent alike. We ask that new parents understand that some of your fears and apprehensions will be removed as you gain confidence in the Squire Staas time passes. We thank you for your patience. Taking care of your child is the greatest responsibility anyone can have. We realize the importance of this responsibility, and we take it very seriously. Here’s to a great summer! Welcome Campers and Parents! The first day of camp is rapidly approaching. We look forward to this day with great anticipation. We have prepared this informational booklet to provide you with details of the camp that you may find helpful.

Camp Hours, Drop Off, and Pickup

Squire Advantage and Sports:Camp begins 9:15am and ends at 3:15pm. Early drop-off is from 8am to 8:45am. Campers should be brought to the Dining Hall if utilizing early drop-off. You do not need to sign up for this service. After 8:45am, your child will be escorted from your vehicle to the Dining Hall. For Pickup, please do not show up before 3:15pm, as you will be sitting in your car until that time. Drop-off and Pickup is in the circular driveway in front of the school. Campers will be escorted to and from your vehicle. Please display the name card given to you on the first day for pickup. Squire Drop-off and pickup locations are not affected by rain and do not change. You should expect delays the first day or two, as some parents and children are not familiar with the routine.

Equipment and ClothingAll dress should be appropriate for the days activities. Please be sure to identify all of your belongings. Please no flip flops.

Squire Advantage:Campers may wish to bring sun block and a hat for outdoor activities. Additionally, campers who choose sports for their courses should wear sneakers and bring tennis rackets or baseball gloves with their names on them. We have some extra rackets.

Please do not bring electronic devices, toys, basketballs or bats to camp. Primary campers should bring a bathing suit, towel and water shoes for Splashy and Swimming if they have chosen those options.

Bus TransportationOptional paid Bus service is door to door. Pickup and drop-off times will be determined by the bus company listed below. You will be informed of the approximate time by the bus company by phone or email during the week prior to your child’s start date. Times are subject to change dependent upon changes to the route.

The Dobbs Ferry Free Bus leaves from Stop and Shop at 8 AM and 8:45 AM. The Irvington Free Bus leaves from First Presbyterian Church at 8:15 AM. Buses return around 3:30-3:45 PM. Please indicate if you would like either of those options on the form included in this packet. You must sign up for this free service. It is about a 10-15 minute ride to Maria Regina in Hartsdale.

Extended DayThose who sign up for extended day must pick up campers by 5:30 pm. Please come to the office. Pick up after 5:30 pm will result in a $20 penalty. Three or more late pickups will result in the loss of extended day privileges. Extended Day is in the Game Room next to the office.

Payment and Refund PolicyAll final payments should have been made by May 15th. There are no refunds for any reason after May 15th, and there are no make ups for missed time. No child will be allowed to start camp until payment is made in full.

Advantage schedules are enclosed for those enrolled in the Advantage program. Course changes must be made by Wednesday of the first week of camp. If there are errors on your child’s schedule, please inform us.

Squire Sports Academies:Campers may wish to bring sun block and a hat for outdoor activities. Tennis campers should bring their own rackets, sneakers, and maybe hats for sunny days. All Sports Campers should bring sneakers, shorts, and clothing appropriate to play various sports.

Bring towels as well as a dry set of clothes and water shoes. Primary Campers should wear their suits to camp with a change of dry clothes in their bag.

Lunch! All campers are provided with a hot lunch. Please do not send any food. It is the policy of the camp to not have any peanut or nut products of any kind eaten or served at camp. If campers must bring lunch due to dietary restrictions, please label the bag and we will refrigerate the lunch. If you have food allergies, speak to the manager, chef, or server. Menus are available online. All Campers in Advantage camp will receive a snack at 11am and an ice pop at 2pm.
