New Beginning Era
• The Revelation unveils the Lord Jesus in His majesty• One whose eyes are a flame of
fire• His voice as the sound of many
waters• The Revelation pictures the
resur-rected Christ at work in this world• He walks among the churches• He receives worship due Him• He pours out judgment on the
world• He raptures His church• He returns in glory to judge the
dead• He reveals His new heaven and
new earth where righteousness lives
OVERVIEW The great conflict at the
center of every Bible story begins in Genesis. In the beginning….• There is a perfect garden• Within it grows the trees of life and of
knowledge of good and evil• The serpent tempts man to rebel
against God• Man chooses sin and death• An innocent animal dies to cover
man’s shame, instituting the sacrifice of the innocent for the guilty
• Man is cast out of God’s presence• The earth is cursed
OVERVIEW The Bible story presents three basic
epochs• Creation before sin (the Garden before the fall)• God created the universe and all that is in
it, and it was “good”• Creation groaning under the strain of sin (corrupting influence of
man’s choice to rebel and live apart from God)• Sin enters creation through man and
corrupts it• The cross of Christ deals with penalty for
sin (separation from God), but not the curse of sin (its effects on creation)
• Creation after sin (perfect fellowship with God is restored)• Sin is removed and creation is restored• The redeemed spend eternity in perfect
fellowship and joyful service before the King, Jesus Christ
OVERVIEW• The Book of the Revelation
relates the story of creation’s restoration• The Lamb of God enthroned in heaven as judge• The cleansing of sin from creation• The destruction of the serpent• The glory of a new heaven and a new earth
KEY TRUTHS
Jesus sits on the throne of creation,
the object of heaven’s worship, and will return to judge man and
destroy sin.
NEW BEGINNING
THE KING ON HIS THRONEThe Majesty of the ThroneThe Lamb Upon the ThroneThe Judgment Before the
Throne
Revelation 4, 5 20 & 21
Revelation 4:1-11
THE MAJESTY OF THE THRONE
MAJESTY OF THE THRONEJohn tries to Describe the Majestic Scene
of the Throne Room of Heaven No adequate words exist John uses the word “like” as he struggles to find earthly
parallels to describe God in His heavenly environment
The Scene around the Throne includes… The One sitting on the throne (3) The 24 gold-crowned elders clothed in white robes surrounding
the throne (4) The manifestations of the Spirit of God (5) Living creatures in the midst of and around the throne (6,7) The activity of worship of the One upon the throne (8-11)
Revelation 5:1-14
THE LAMB UPON THE THRONE
LAMB UPON THE THRONE
Picture and Purpose of the Scroll Preserved by God in His possession
for this day Written on front and back so at least
part of its contents is visible Sealed up with seven seals Thought to represent the title-deed to
the earth• An example of storing of a
title-deed for future redemption by relatives was provided thru the prophet Jeremiah (Jer 32)
The Problem of the Scroll The angel (Gabriel?) searches for one worthy to open it John begins to weep because it appears no one is worthy One of the elders comforts John by pointing out the One who is
worthy to open the scroll• The Lion of the tribe of Judah• The Root of David• The One who has overcome
Christ is the only worthy inheritor since He is creator AND kinsman to Adam in the flesh• “Before He can take possession, however, He must
evict the squatters that dominate the earth.” (Henry Morris)
LAMB UPON THE THRONE
LAMB UPON THE THRONE
The First Song of the Four Living Creatures and 24 Elders “Worthy are You to take the book and to break
its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and peo-ple and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth.” (Rev 5:9-10)
Celebrates the redemption of humanity through the sacrificial death of the Lamb
Rejoices in the restoration of man’s dominion over the earth Jesus worth is extolled and His redemption declared
LAMB UPON THE THRONE
The Second Song of the Creatures, Elders and Host of Angels “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and
wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.” (Rev 5:12) John uses seven nouns to describe the Lamb’s worth
• Power• Riches• Wisdom• Strength• Honor• Glory• Blessing
The Lamb does not acquire these attributes from creation, but crea-tion’s praise serves magnifies and acknowledges them
LAMB UPON THE THRONE
A Final Song Sung by every Creature in Creation “To Him who sits on the throne, and to
the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.” (Rev 5:13)
Ties the Father and Spirit (Him who sits on the throne) and Jesus (the Lamb) together as the focus of worthy praise
Celebrates the eternal nature of the Lamb and His reign and redemption of creation
• Revelation 4 begins with the phrase, “After these things”. What precedes John’s heavenly vision?
After Jesus addresses the seven churches, the church is ne-ver mentioned again in Revelation. What might this imply?
Three views as to the timing of the rapture of the church Pre-Tribulation: The church is removed before the great tribulation Mid-Tribulation: The church remains on the earth through the first three-
and-a-half years to help harvest tribulation saints Post-Tribulation: The church endures the entire tribulation period and the
rapture and glorious appearing are one in the same
• What is the difference between the song the angels sing in 4:8 vesus 5:9-10? What does it mean to say that the redeemed will be a kingdom and
priests to God and they will reign on the earth?
Revelation 20:11-15
Revelation 21:3
THE JUDGMENT BEFORE THE
THRONE
JUDGMENT BEFORE THE THRONE
The Bible regularly Divides People into Two Groups People of faith in God People of unbelief in and rebellion against God
One Final Separation will occur before the Great White Throne of Judgment The timing of the judgment
• Occurs after the millennial reign and the final rebellion of man
• Immediately before the establishing of the new heaven and earth
The purpose of the judgment• All the unredeemed dead will rise to be judged by their
deeds recorded in the “books” (resurrection to judgment)• Their names not being found in the “book of life”, they will
be cast completely out of the presence of God for eternity– There will be no appeal to a higher authority for there is no higher
authority than Jesus
JUDGMENT BEFORE THE THRONE
Every Person will Stand before Christ and be Judged Unbelievers before the great white throne
judgment, condemned by their deeds Believers before the judgment seat of Christ,
evaluated for reward• 2 Corinthians 5:10 ~ For we
must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
Every Christian should live with “that day” in mind
JUDGMENT BEFORE THE THRONE
The Final Scene John sees; the Righteous Serving the Lamb (Eternal Kingdom) The curse received by Adam and Eve will be removed
• All of the redeemed will spend eternity in purposeful, joyful, sinless service to the King they love
Sin is completely and eternally resolved• It’s penalty paid at the cross• It’s power broken at the resurrection• It’s presence eradicated in the reclamation of
creation
Oh Glorious Day!!!
• Read Revelation 3:5. How can one’s name be ‘erased’ from the book of life?
• Revelation 3:5 ~ He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.
• What should motivate us to live today with “that day” of judgment in mind? Fear of regret? Desire for heavenly reward? Love for the King who redeemed us?
What are we doing to ensure that our loved ones and friends are ready for the day of judgment?
Jesus is the God-man who came as a humble ser-vant the first time, but will one day return as the glorious King to reclaim creation and judge all men.
Those who resist God’s reign and His Son’s re-demption will be cast into the lake of fire.
Those who recognize their need and trust in Jesus Christ will be welcome before His throne for all eternity.
