ReadingA balanced or comprehensive literacy approach is used. This includes mini-lessons, shared reading, guided reading, and independent reading, as well as read-alouds, literature studies, author studies, and explicit phonological and phonemic awareness skills instruction.

Students write for many purposes with emphasis on explanatory and descriptive writing. Students also practice basic research skills, with an emphasis on information collection, summarizing, paraphrasing, and identifying resources. We follow a Writer’s Workshop approach to writing (mini-lesson, independent writing, conferencing, sharing)

· These notebooks will be completed using composition notebooks for each subject.  They can be used for review at any time. It is a learning process and requires time and several procedures.

 

Homework· Homework is a nightly 30 minute process
