Our artist is Francisco Goya. We study about Goya’s childhood and how his life was growing up and becoming a famous artist. Goya was born on March 30, 1746. He lived with his mother and father. He lived in Fuendetodos, a village in northern Spain.
When he was 14 an artist named Jose Luzan inspired him to be an artist. He took lessons from the artist. He painted cartoons for the royal tapestry factory in Madrid.
When Goya was older he went to Italy for one year to study more art. He got married to Josefa Bayeu in Italy. He went back to Spain where he painted famous pictures of The Incantation and The Countess of Carpio. Francisco died in Bordeaux on April 16, 1828.

Portrait of Mariana Waldstein
Oil on canvas (110 Kb), 142 x 97 cm (56 x 38 1/4"); Musee du Louvre, Paris
This is my favorite painting of all. I like this one because it shows a woman who is standing in the front of what looks like her home and land. The mixing of the colors in the sky show that it must be gloomy. The woman is wearing a dark dress that drapes around her. This is a beautiful painting. This is why I like it.

Doña Teresa Sureda,1805, canvas, The National Gallery
of Art, Washington D.C.
This is one of my favorite paintings. It is of Dona Teresa Sureda. What I like about the painting is she sticks out and she is like a realistic person. The chair that she sits on has a golden texture that makes the chair stand out. This is a wonderful painting.

The Countess of Carpio, Marquise de la Solana Oil on canvas (130 Kb); 181 x 122 cm (71 1/4 x 48"); Musee du Louvre, Paris
This painting of the Countess of Carpio is one of the paintings I really like. The colors and style of it brings the woman in the painting alive.

The Parasol, 1777, oil on canvas, Museo del Prado, Madrid
This painting is one of my favorite paintings because the people stand out in the painting. The shadow of the tree in the background make the painting more real.

Maria Teresa of Vallabriga on Horseback, 1783, oil on canvas, Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence.
This is one of my favorite paintings because the sky and the mountains look so real. The shadow from the horse and the bushes make the painting look real. The horse and the woman stand out in the painting.

Birth of the Virgin, 1771-73, fresco, Charterhouse of the Aula Dei at Saragossa.
Portrait of Maria Teresa de Borbón y
Vallabriga, 1783, oil on canvas, National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.
This is one of my favorite paintings because it looks like someone just put a little girl in front of a beautiful place. The dog and the mountains in the picture looks so real it doesn’t look like he painted it.

I think the artist Francisco Goya is a great painter. His painting are so colorful and beautiful. He makes his pictures come to life. How he shadows the picture to make it look real. All of his pictures have a different way of standing out. If I didn’t like his painting so much I wouldn’t of picked him, but I’m glad I did.
Jenna
I think Francisco Goya is a wonderful artist. He makes the painting come alive. For example the painting of The Countess of Carpio. This painting includes a woman standing by herself. The background is the sky darkened to make it look gloomy outside. He is a great artist and that is why I picked him.
