Evidence-Based Management
Rule #1
Business analytics is not all about technology: The technology is important, but only when it delivers true business value!
What Are the Primary Analytics Roles?
Data ScientistSoftware developer with strong statistical skills or a statistician with strong software development skills. “A person who is better at statistics than any software engineer and better at software engineering than any statistician”.
Data EngineerProgrammer or computer scientist who can build or utilize advanced computing systems. Typically programs in Python, Java, or Scala and is familiar with Linux, servers, networking, databases, and application deployment.
Data AnalystFocus primarily on the statistical modeling and exploration of data: e.g. R, Python. Familiar with data mining and machine learning techniques, including regressions, clustering, and classification problems.
Domain ExpertInfluential, business-oriented members of a team that understand deeply the types of data and problems that are encountered. They understand the specific challenges of their data and are looking for better ways to make the data productive to solve new challenges.
MSBA will develop skills germane to the Data Analyst and Domain Expert roles
