MathI can understand that multiplication fact problems can be seen as comparisons of groups (e.g., 24 = 4 x 6 can be thought of as 4 groups of 6 or 6 groups of 4).I can multiply or divide to solve word problems by using drawings or writing equations and solving for a missing number. I can use what I know about addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to solve multi-step word problems involving whole numbers. I can represent word problems by using equations with a letter standing for the unknown number. I can determine how reasonable my answers to word problems are by using estimation, mental math and rounding. I can find all factor pairs for a number from 1 to 100. I can determine whether a given whole number up to 100 is a prime or composite number. I can recognize that in multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. I can multiply a whole number up to four digits by a one-digit whole number.I can multiply two two-digit numbers. I can find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors

I can refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what a text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text ( fiction and nonfiction)

I can determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text (fiction and nonfiction)

I can determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text; summarize the text.

I can describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., a character’s thoughts, words or actions).

Reading

I can summarize the key principles of the North Carolina Constitution. I can compare the roles and responsibilities of state elected leaders. I can explain the influence of the colonial history of North Carolina on

the governing documents of our state. I can compare North Carolina’s government with local governments. I can analyze the preamble and articles of the North Carolina

Constitution in terms of rights and responsibilities. I can give examples of rights and responsibilities of citizens according

to North Carolina Constitution. I can differentiate between rights and responsibilities reflected in the

NC Constitution I can explain the impact of entrepreneurship on the economy of North

Carolina. I can explain how personal financial decisions such as spending,

saving and paying taxes can positively and/or negatively affect everyday life.

I can explain how scarcity of personal financial resources affect the choices people make based on their wants and needs.

Social Studies

I can introduce my reader to the topic by clearly identifying the characters, setting, plot, narrator, sensory details, and sequence events

  I can define narrative and describe the basic parts of plot

I can orient (set the scene for) the reader by introduction the narrator, characters, and the event/situation that starts the story in motion

  I can describe experiences and events through character dialogue helping

my reader to better understand

I can use a variety of transitional words and phrases to organize the sequence of events

I can use specific words or phrases and sensory details to describe experiences and events in narrative writing

I can write a logical conclusion when writing a narrative piece

Writing

Forces and Motion: I can explain how magnets interact with all things made of iron

and with other magnets to produce motion without touching them.

I can explain how electrically charged objects push or pull on other electrically charged objects and produce motion.

Properties and Change: I can compare the physical properties of samples of matter

(strength, hardness, flexibility, ability to conduct heat, ability to conduct electricity, ability to be attracted by magnets, reactions to water and fire).

I can explain how minerals are identified using tests for the physical properties of hardness, color, luster, cleavage and streak.

I can classify rocks as metamorphic, sedimentary or igneous based on their composition, how they are formed and the processes that create them.

STEM FairProject Benchmarks: Each of these benchmarks will count

toward your project grade. Projects are required at Morehead STEM Academy. Letters will be sent home with students when a benchmark is missed.

10/20/14 Present your Topic Choice and testable question to your teacher At this time you should also have your log book to write these in and your teacher will initial if they are appropriate

11/13/14 Turn in your Research Report and your written rough draft in your log book and share your with your teacher

11/10/14 Complete your Project Proposal and turn in your Research Plan Approval Form

12/15/14 Project Report Due 1/6/15 STEM PROJECTS DUE This

includes reports, logbook and display board

The STEM Fair will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015.
