Chris Carter, Head of SchoolDear parents,

One week to go! That is surely what the students are saying, and many of the teachers as well. The halls have been echoing seasonal music in preparation for Christmas programs. The Little School Nativity Play and Christmas Sing was this morning, and the children were just wonderful. Thank you to Mrs. Duplantis (AKA Ms. D) and all the classroom teachers who worked so hard to help our children tell the story of Christmas and share the joy of the season! Next Wednesday 1st-4th grades will present Christmas in Black and White; I am eager to watch the penguins of the Polar Pet Park teach us all about the real meaning of Christmas!

Today our 1st and 5th grade Chapel Buddies are on a field trip together. I love our Chapel Buddies tradition, as well as the 5th and 8th grade big and little brothers/sisters. Opportunities for our older and younger students to interact in meaningful ways with appropriate adult oversight also include the Teacher’s Assistant program that allows our middle school students to assist in a preschool or lower school classroom. I know both as a parent and from what I see walking the halls how special those TA’s can be to younger students and what a good experience it is for our older students to get to serve as mentors, leaders, and role models.

Many of you are already asking about next year’s calendar. We will probably not have that set until the end of next month. Right now I am waiting for the Caddo Parish Schools calendar to be published. Though we never follow their calendar exactly, we do have to be mindful of it for all our families who have high school students. I generally also look at the Bossier Parish and Catholic Schools calendars and then consider our own needs and whether we need to make any changes. I have already noted that Easter falls quite late in 2019, so I am relatively certain that Spring Break will not be tied to Holy Week as it is this year. We will try to get a basic calendar with starts and stops to you as quickly as possible and will fill in special events throughout the spring.

Lower and Middle School parents, I hope you can join us for our Lessons and Carols Chapel service on Thursday. Please note the 8:30 start time. After Chapel we proceed to the Parish Hall for the Christmas Sing which will conclude with the traditional rendition of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”; Mrs. Marlar and Ms. Ellington in 5th grade assure me that the gold hula-hoops are ready to go! Little School parents, after this busy week, our efforts will be to keep next week as calm and “normal” as possible.

Wishing you all a great weekend!

Chris Carter, D.Min.Head of School
