Joy is prayer. Joy is strength. Joy is love. Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls. God loves a cheerful giver. One gives most who gives with joy. The best way to show our gratitude to God and people is to accept everything with joy. A joyful heart is the inevitable result of a heart burning with love. Never let anything so fill you with sorrow as to make you forget the joy of the Christ risen. —Mother Teresa

THE YOUTH THANK YOU for supporting their “Jason’s Deli” night out last Tuesday. They will receive a check for $29.89!The next “Jason’s Deli” night out will be May 24

th.

The youth set aside 10% of every fundraiser for their tithe. They used to choose a cause at the beginning of the year to donate their money, but in recent years, they’ve chosen to hold on to their tithe until a need arises. A need has indeed arisen and the youth have chosen to put $1,000.00 into Our Savior Lutheran Church and School’s Reserve fund.

What is prayer? A self-help guru once said, “If prayer is you talking to God, then intuition is God talking to you.” Yes and no. Although we often think of prayer as us talking while God listens, listening to him is crucial. We can start with reading or hearing Scripture and then responding — aloud or in our hearts — with questions, concerns, joys, confessions, gratitude and praise. Certainly, God also communicates with us in other ways. Through Christian friends we hear guidance, assurance, love, even admonition. Then, too, we hear God speaking in our heart. We may call this our conscience, a hunch or, indeed, intuition. So we might tweak the line above: “Prayer is both you talking to God and your intuition by which God talks to you.” Amen!

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.

LIFE LINE SCREENING WILL BE HERE ON FRIDAY, MAY 20

TH

Life Line Screening, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings, is pleased to offer a preventive health event at Our Savior Lutheran Church on 5/20/2016. Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to: blocked arteries which is a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. In order to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any package priced above $129, please call 1-888-653-6441 or visit www.lifelinescreening.com/community-partners.

TUESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY RETURNS! Beginning Tuesday Evening May 17th, from 7:00-8:00 we will begin an 8 week course of study titled, “What Difference Does It Make?; The Stuff That Makes Us Lutheran”. This discussion oriented offering promises not to be your father’s Lutheran teachings course, although it will certainly function as a preparatory course for anyone who is planning to join Our Savior with no previous Lutheran experience. We will compare and contrast other Christian denominations and subject everything we believe and practice in the Lutheran Church, which we boldly insist is based only on the Word of God, to our collective critical thinking. Join us for some lively discussion and the chance to formulate your personal response to the question, ‘What do you Lutherans believe about that’?

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT HAS BEEN OVER 5 YEARS SINCE OUR LAST PICTORIAL DIRECTORY?? It’s time to update our directory and we will begin taking photos of our members, friends, and school families in October. The dates will be October 5, 6, 7, 8, 19, 20, 21, 22. More information will be coming soon.

Our Savior's Elementary Track and Field team earned First Place for the second year in a row! Saturday's Track Meet not only displayed the ability of our elementary and middle school Saints, but also the overwhelming support and participation of our parents. A special thank you to Coach DePasquale, Coach Carl, and Athletic Director Banford!

FIELD TRIP FUN You've heard of distance learning, but the 4th and 5th grade really went the distance, traveling to St. Augustine for an amazing two-day adventure into our state's history. This important learning experience was supported by a Thrivent Action Team and coordinated by 5th grade teacher Kristin Volz. Meanwhile, Ms. Meier's class headed to the Museum of Discovery and Science for a day of exploration. Coming up at the end of the month is an overnight middle school field trip to Kennedy Space Center.
