From the Principal…

SCHOOL PHOTOS School photos will be taken tomorrow (Wednesday). Please send your children in full summer uniform. Envelopes for sibling photos should have been collected from the front office. All envelopes with payment should be brought in on Wednesday and handed to the photographers.

MUFTI DAY FUNDRAISER SUPPORTERS DAY THIS FRIDAY

Children can wear their favourite team colours to school on Friday. All children are asked to bring along a gold coin donation. This donation will be forwarded to Central Coast Kids in Need.

TERM 4 Term 4 commences for students and staff on Monday October 12. Teachers will begin assessments for end of year reporting and planning will be under way for end of year events. Many of these events may be different to what we have been accustomed to because of Covid 19. We are awaiting more guidelines at the end of this term to support us in planning end of year events.

NO CANTEEN DAY 1 TERM 4 Please remember - children will have to bring their lunch on the first day of term. Electrical upgrading will occur over the school holidays and canteen stock will be depleted. All students and staff will need to bring their lunch on Monday 12 October.

THANK YOU Parents have been wonderful in supporting our school in these “Covid” times. We are very fortunate to have a community interested in supporting the school, its students and teachers. Our children come to school in full school uniform everyday and they have all of their equipment with them. Their drink bottles are full in the morning and the children are ready to learn the minute they enter the school gate. THANK YOU!!!

Our Executive team have enjoyed being on the gates in the morning and it is the highlight of our day as we welcome the children into school.

YEAR 6 FAREWELL This will be held on Thursday December 10. The Farewell may be a little different to previous years but it will go ahead. The children were very excited when we shared this news with them. Strong support from the staff and the P&C will ensure that the Year 6 students have a lovely farewell function.

HOLIDAYS

I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing holiday break. We look forward to a busy Term 4! Lyn Davis

AUSTRALIA FUN DAY Yesterday, Year 2 celebrated an "Australia Fun Day" as part of their Geography unit for Semester 2. Students and the Year 2 teachers were dressed brightly in Australian and Indigenous colours and Australian animals. There were a range of outdoor activities that students participated in, including the classic thong throwing competition, an adapted egg and spoon race with fly swatters and insects, inflatable Koala and Cockatoo races, and Indigenous sporting games. Inside, they participated in creative arts activities including Boomerang designs and creating the Sydney Opera House from paper plates! A big thank you to Mrs Elliott in the canteen for organising and providing a range of Aussie lunches for the students to enjoy during lunch time. It was a great day for everyone, with lots of students ending the school day with a huge smile on their faces.

Miss Hogg 2M Intern and Year 2 teachers.

LIBRARY NEWS Scholastic Book Fair – Yes, we are having a Book Fair again this year! (however, with some differences). It will be set up in the library from Week 2 next term Monday 19 October – 29 October. More details to follow.

WILD/CURIOUS MASTERPIECE The Book Fair coincides with Book Week, which has the theme “Curious Creatures, Wild Minds”. Think books, brains, weird creatures, recycled materials, imagination, creativity – there are no limits, but not too big please. It would be great if your creation could sit without support, on a bookshelf or perhaps a poster which can be pinned up on a wall. Maybe these school holidays would be a good time to create your wild/curious masterpiece! Teachers will judge the works and 10 children will win a $10.00 gift voucher to be spent at the Book Fair. Please bring your wonderful creations to the library by Thursday of Week 1 (15 October). Premiers Reading Challenge - congratulations to Kindergarten students Zoe, Rosie and Benjamin also Maximilian in Year 3 for competing!

STUDENT PARLIAMENT Student Parliament was held on Wednesday 16 September 2020. We had two motions that were discussed.

1. To have a choice of working inside or outside. 2. To have no speeches for the end of year farewell.

Both motions were defeated.

Previous motions: To have new flags to replace the old ones. A letter was sent to Lucy Wicks our Federal Member of Parliament. Her office contacted the school and said they were happy to supply us with three new flags. One of the Parliament members will pick them up.

A sports mufti day has been approved for Friday 25 September, (last day of term). The Senate decided on Central Coast Kids in Need to donate all funds raised. Gold coin donation.

The bike rack has been overcrowded and we need more racks. The senate passed the motion and the school is looking at extending the bike rack.

Reported by Rosie and Gabby.

AHOY!

On Friday 1H, 1D and 1P celebrated ‘National talk like a pirate day’. The buccaneers learnt some pirate words and had to use them throughout the day. We learnt how to fold a pirate hat out of newspaper building our resilience and listening skills. We then went on a treasure hunt around the school. The students had to work in teams using their map reading skills they have learnt in geography to search the school for clues. These clues then told the students where the buried treasure was. The day ended with the students making their own pirate puppet. It was great to see some excellent creativity.
