Bob’s Thoughts…

The Resurrection Can Lift You Up

Philip was born with Down’s syndrome. He attended a third-grade Sunday school class with several other eight-year old boys and girls. Typical of that age, the children did not readily accept Philip with his dif-ferences. But because of a creative teacher, they began to care about Philip and accept him as part of the group, though not fully. The Sunday after Easter, the teacher brought in some L’eggs pantyhose containers, the kind that look like large eggs. Each child received one, and then was told to go outside on that lovely spring day, find some symbol for new life, and put it in the egg-like container. Back in the classroom, they would share their new-life symbols, opening the containers one by one in surprise fashion. After running around the church property in wild confusion, the students returned to the classroom and placed their containers on the table. Surrounded by the children, the teacher began to open them one by one. After each one, whether a flower, butterfly, or leaf, the class would “ooh” and “ahh.” Then one was opened that was empty. The children exclaimed, “That’s stupid. That’s not fair. Somebody didn’t do their assignment.” Philip, the down’s boy, spoke up, “That’s mine.” “Philip, you don’t ever do things right!” One of the students lashed. “There’s nothing there!” “I did so do it,” Philip insisted. “I did do it. It’s empty! The tomb was empty! Silence followed. From then on, Philip became a full-fledged member of the class. He died not long afterward from an infection most normal children would have shrugged off. At the funeral, this class of eight-year olds marched up to the front, not with flowers, but with their Sunday school teacher, each to lay in the casket an empty pantyhose egg. Philip knew, in his short life, what many of you and I know. The greatest sym-bol of hope and new life is the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Full Armor Christian Academy Full Armor Christian Academy presents Chris August, singer/songwriter, Saturday, May 17th @ 6 PM at First Baptist Church, Henderson. All seats are $20. Tickets are on sale at Full Armor. - Continued from Page 2 The Los Angeles Times printed an article back in Sep-tember ‘07 under the caption, “DID JESUS RISE BODI-LY, MOST SCHOLARS SAY NO!” The article was well written and drew an unmistakable conclusion. That conclusion is completely contrary to Biblical facts. To deny that Jesus was raised from the dead (the conclusion drawn by “most prominent Biblical scholars”) is to deny the plain truth of the Bible. The resurrection account is very simply and beautifully recorded in Matthew 28:1-9. Numerous appearances of Jesus after His resurrection are also recorded. The Bible relates appearances to Mary Magdalene, the other women, the ten apostles assembled in Jerusalem, the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, to the eleven apostles in Jerusalem, to the seven in Galilee, to Peter, James, and a number of others (MK. 16; JN. 20 and 21; Matt. 28: LK. 24). The apostles were witnesses of the resurrection. They had been with Christ before His death. They had seen Him during the trial, and some of them had seen Him die on the cross. Then after the resurrection these men asso-ciated with him for about forty days. They talked with Him, they touched Him, they saw Him. One of them, Thomas, doubted! Jesus invited him to touch Him. Place his hand in His side, and in the nail prints in His hands. Thomas responded, “My Lord and my God.” (John 20:28). Is it likely these men would have been deceived? They had known Jesus so well before His death, and, were per-sonally associated with Him after His resurrection. Is it likely they would have been deliberate deceivers? The only thing they had to look forward to for their testi-mony of His resurrection was peril, persecution, impris-onment, and death! Yet, all of these men went out and preached that Jesus had been raised from the dead. All but one of these died for this confession. Regardless of the conclusion drawn by John Dart’s “Most Scholars”, it seems more reasonable to believe that Jesus rose from the dead based upon the Biblical account. Why would these men choose to deliberately lie? What do you think? Have a devoted Lord ’s Day!

I Love You. Bob
