This Week in Grade 8 Wel come ba ck! I hope everyone ha a relaxing vacation. Everyone is getting bac k into the swing of the school routine now! ENGLISH This week the focus in English class was on poetry and choosing a poet or songwriter for their perfor mance task. They will be analy zing a song or poem and identifying how it is ‘Tr ansformational’. This is a long term project and will be worked on o ver the next few weeks. SOCIAL STUDIES Students continued working on their maps of the Mid dle East and North Africa. As well, they have begun discussing the new u nit (Tr ansforma tion) speci call y looking at Revolutions and how they change societies and governments. They were introduced to the 4 Stages of Revolution. Next week, either Monday or T uesday (depen ding o n class block) students will have a Map Quiz on the Mid dle East /North Africa. SCIENCE The Tr ansfor mation unit began this week in Science as well . Stu dents will be looking at simple machines, participating in lab experiments - building a pen dulum, coll ecting dat a, etc. MATH The Geometry u nit continued this week w ith the focus on lines, rays, segments and planes - analyzing how they intersect with one another in various situations.
