NEWS OF COMFORT In a time of preparation, much of it having to do with material things, it is good to hear the words of Isaiah, “Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God” (Isaiah 40:1). In a time of such stress and rush, when our usual burdens are augmented by piles of Christmas preparations, we can choose to slow down, take some time to heal, and appreciate the enormous gift we are about to receive. Christ, the Son of God, has become one of us, and knows our human limitations. Yet God, even now, is freeing us from the burdens that our inattentiveness to our God and to our deepest inner longings have heaped upon us. The Lord comes, not as a king with mighty armies, but as a shepherd leading the flocks with care and tenderness. Isaiah prophesies good news: our oppression is over, our sins forgiven. NOTICIAS QUE DAN CONSUELO En un tiempo de preparación, relacionado en gran medida con cosas materiales, es bueno escuchar las palabras de Isaías: “Consuelen, consuelen a mi pueblo, dice nuestro Dios” (Isaías 40:1). En un tiempo de tanto nerviosismo y prisa, cuando nuestras cargas habituales se duplican a causa de los miles de preparativos navideños, podemos elegir aminorar la marcha, dedicar un tiempo a curar las heridas y valorar el enorme regalo que estamos por recibir. Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, se ha convertido en uno de nosotros y conoce nuestras limitaciones humanas. Sin embargo, Dios, incluso ahora, nos está librando de las cargas que se nos amontonan por no prestarle atención a él ni a nuestros anhelos más profundos. THANK YOU - 2017 AMA (ANNUAL MINISTRY APPEAL) DONORS MUCHAS GRACIAS – PETICION ANUAL DE MINISTERIOS (AMA)

Each year, we as parishioners of Sacred Heart and members of the Diocese of Monterey are asked to commit to our practice of stewardship by pledging to the Annual Ministries Appeal (AMA). This appeal supports (just to name a few) the formation of future deacons and priests, Catechetical Ministries, Catholic Schools, Respect Life, Hispanic and Migrant Ministry, and Youth Leadership Programs. 274 donors pledged or gave one-time donations totaling $82,082.17 ($80,617.17 has been paid) to the 2017 appeal (2,117 letters were mailed to registered parishioners). 13% of our parishioners participated (up from 12.08% last year). The 2017 campaign appeal will officially end December 31, 2017. If you are making monthly payments, we ask you please pay off your pledge by then … only $1,465 remains unpaid. What a wonderful showing of stewardship by you, our parishioners. You can see your rebate money at work with the construction of our new restrooms. Sacred Heart is blessed to have parishioners who prayerfully give to this mission – so again – THANK YOU! We apologize if there are any omissions to this list.
