PROCLAIMING THE GOOD NEWS

OF THE RESURRECTION Last week we celebrated Easter, the Resurrection of Christ the Lord. This is the beginning of our Easter season which will be celebrated for the next seven weeks or 50 days. During this time we have the opportunity to reflect on how Jesus reveals himself to his disciples, how Jesus reveals himself to us and how we are to make present the Risen Lord in our world today. After overcoming their initial fear at seeing the empty tomb and experiencing the Risen Lord, the disciples are filled with joy. We re-read the stories of this Easter joy experienced by the early Christian community which helps us to know that this Easter joy is ours too. These days will help us to know how to proclaim the message of the Risen Lord as did the early Church. Through the appearances of the Risen Lord, the disciples’ proclamation of the Resurrection, their healing of the sick and baptizing many households, we too learn that this is also our mission. The same Holy Spirit that the first disciples received, we receive as well. The Spirit empowers us to continue to spread the Easter Gospel to all. Let us go in peace glorifying our Lord by our lives. Msgr. Manganello

CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS APPEAL Next week, we will take up the Catholic Home Missions Appeal. Right now, over 40 percent of dioceses in the US are considered home missions because they are unable to fund essential pastoral work needed in their communities. Your support of this appeal helps ease the struggle of these dioceses. Please prayerfully consider how you can support this appeal. More information can be found at www.usccb.org/home-missions.

Please pray for all those who are sick, suffering, recovering and hospitalized, especially Linda Campbell, Barbara Suffoletto, Caitlin Kasberg, James Palka, Susan Bertin,

Bernadette R. Crawford, Heidi Cornell, Niziti Ascela, Leah Manth, Donald Kopp, Geraldine Sliwinski, Sara Rimmler, Joan Taylor, Catalina Aloi, Miriam Tekie, Mary Almeida, Debbie Buyers, Paul Sweeney, Ronald Beller, Kathleen Walter, Spencer Daly, Larry DiGiulio, James Watson, Carlos Calhoun, Marie Miller, and Margaret Foegen. Please contact the Parish Office to have a loved one placed on the Prayer List. Names will appear for one month. If their condition continues to warrant our prayers, please call the office and we will gladly include them in one month increments as long as necessary. We remember all those recently deceased, especially Linda McSwain, Sr. Marcella Anne Wendzikowski and our deceased parishioners and loved ones.

VOCATION THOUGHT Devine Mercy Sunday

It is an unspeakable blessing that from our Lord flows boundless mercy, a mercy that forgives even the deadliest of sins. We should never forget this or take it for granted. Can God be calling you to make His mercy known? If God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Father Andrew Lauricella at 847-5535.

FAITH MOMENT REFLECTION Today we celebrate the Sunday of Divine Mercy. The scripture readings remind us of the mercy of Jesus that we can all emulate. Saint Pope John Paul II designated the first Sunday after Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday. This designation emphasizes the belief of Christians that it was through mercy that God gave his only son for the redemption of mankind...for the forgiveness of sins. Christ shows us how to live mercifully with others. In the Gospel, when Thomas insists on seeing Jesus before he will believe Christ is risen, Jesus does not scold him for his doubt. Rather, Jesus bears the doubt of Thomas patiently. Jesus is forgiving of Thomas, but holds him accountable, instructing and advising Thomas to believe. How might we live mercifully with others in our daily lives? May we show mercy through patience, forgiveness, comfort, peace and love for one another.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES Finite time. Infinite good. The youth of today are tomorrow’s engineers, leaders, teachers and inspirers. That’s why Catholic Charities provides young people in Erie and Niagara counties with the Tomorrow’s Youth Today program. In the program, youths ages 16 to 24 are given education and employment services such as High School Equivalency instruction, post-secondary school education planning, job readiness training, paid work experience, assistance with resumè and cover letter writing, and more. Help us continue to build up today’s youth for a stronger, brighter tomorrow by donating to our 2017 Appeal. Call 716-218-1400 or visit ccwny.org/donation today and multiply God’s goodness.

ST. JOSEPH’S CLUB FAMILY PARTY Attention all high school guys interested in discerning God’s will for your life! You and your families are welcome to join us as we wrap up the year with food, fun, and fellowship at our annual St. Joseph’s Club Family Party, Sunday, May 7th, 12:30 p.m., Christ the King Seminary Campus Center.

Following the party, families are welcome to join Father Bill Quinlivan in a “Holy Hour for Vocations” beginning at 2:00 p.m. For more information or to register, contact [email protected].

JOURNEY INTO LOVE The Office of Family Life Ministries is looking for married couples to assist with the monthly diocesan marriage preparation program, Journey Into Love. Married couples help by giving a 20 minute talk once or twice a year on essential topics and issues that engaged and newly married couples face. Married couples that support this ministry find it beneficial to their own marriage and their efforts contribute to the strengthening of family life as couples prepare for their marriage. If you are interested in finding out more about this very successful diocesan marriage program, call the Family Life Office at 847-2210.

WORD OF LIFE “All of us are called to offer others an explicit witness to the saving love of the Lord, who despite our imperfections offers us his closeness, his word and his strength, and gives meaning to our lives.” ~ Pope Francis

SPIRITUAL AND FINANCIAL REPORT We warmly welcome all who come to St. Louis for Mass—tourists, visitors, parishioners and friends. Last weekend 875 people attended Mass at St. Louis Parish. Our regular collection was $9,149.00 and the Holy Land collection was $985.00. Your generosity is deeply appreciated. It enables the preservation, ministry and maintenance of our historic church. It assists us in reaching out to the people of our neighborhood. Thank you for your support.

Please remember St. Louis Parish in your will. A bequest may be worded in this fashion - “I give to St. Louis Roman Catholic Church of Buffalo, NY the sum of __________ to be used for its general purposes.”
