This event is celebrated since the 19th century. Originally the celebration was planned to be for 3 days long. The first day was to concentrate on the reli-gious aspect, the second was to commemorate the scientific achievements and the third to celebrate the people.

The first celebration did not re-ceive a warm welcome by the people so the next celebration was made only 100 years later in 1947.

By Stalin’s order the 800th years celebration was made in September.

The city was turned into a huge party venue, it was cleaned to be sparkling, deco-rated in beautiful lights and a huge firework display coloured the city horizon in the evening!

Since 1986 the Moscow’s day is celebrated annually. With the times in the must-do’s to Moscow day was added spe-cial markets.

Certainly soon in the list of must-do’s will be added the Music concerts and Master classes.

This year the celebration will be very special and interesting. The symbol of this year is – the butterfly.

The Red Square Traditionally the opening cer-emony have place at the Red square. Here the president of Russian Federation and other representative of the govern-ment will make the best wishes to our beautiful city and it’s residents.

The butterfly – is the symbol of the Moscow Day 2014

If you want to become famous on the day of Moscow city, find the butterfly installation! The idea is that with the help of new modern technology you will be converted into a butterfly. After you will get special butterfly wings, that could be re-sized for your height, you will be showed on the main Moscow screens and on special butterfly screens in Moscow parks.

Parades on the Moscow Day

International military-musi-cal festival The Spasskaya Tower This year in the festival will participate more than 1000 of military musicians, art collec-tives from around the world.

From the 5th-7th of Septem-ber, one of the guests of the festival will be the worldwide famous singer Mireille Mathieu.

On the days of the celebration will be organized a special free fee program and a special event for kids.

This year, the night sky will light up with fairy lights on September 6th, at 10:30pm on the Vorobiovy Hills, on Poklonnaya Hill, Bolshaya Akademitcheskaya, in the parks “Izmailovo” and “Kuz-minki” , near the Kursk train station in Butovo, Solncevo, Nagatino and Mitino areas , in Zelenograd and Troitsk cities.
