Quote of the Week

“All Scripture is inspired by God and useful for refuting error,

for guiding people’s lives and teaching them to be upright.

This is how someone dedicated to God becomes fully

equipped and ready for any good work.”

The Second letter of St. Paul to Timothy 3:16

St. Teilo’s remains closed for public worship,

Due to the Alert Level Four in place for the whole of Wales, with a very high risk of infection and

the ‘at risk’ profile of many of our parishioners, Mass will be live streamed only from St.

Teilo’s until further notice.

Please take the Welsh Government advice and STAY AT HOME if at all possible.

The Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales has confirmed that the obligation to attend

Sunday Mass remains suspended.

Live Streaming

The webcam in St. Teilo’s will be left on at all times, so please take the opportunity to ‘look in’

on the Church for prayer at any time.

Mass Times

Mass will continue to be broadcast live on the Parish Website from St. Teilo’s at 10am each

day. You are encouraged, not only to listen and watch the Mass but to take part by making the

responses in your own home.

At Communion time each day, we will be led in praying St. Alphonse Liguori’s Act of Spiritual

Communion:

My Jesus,

I believe that You

are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment

receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

AMEN.

Dial for Mass

We continue to operate the ‘Dial for Mass’ scheme for those who do not have access to the

Internet. Ring to access our ‘Dial for Mass’ service. Mass will be available each Sunday from

about 2.00pm and you can hear the previous Sunday’s Mass by ringing the service at any time

of day or night during the week.

The number is a local number from Cardiff based landlines – 22 670 999. If you are dialling from

outside Cardiff or from a mobile phone, you will need to dial 029 2267 0999.

Canon Isaac

Following his recent successful operation, Canon Isaac’s wound continues to heal and the

consultant is very pleased with his progress. Canon now has to wait for three weeks until a

further liver test can take place to ensure that the good part of the liver has grown and will be

able to cope with the removal of the other part of the organ. Canon, though weary from the

recovery process, remains in good spirits while continuing to self-isolate in the Presbytery in

preparation for the more significant operation which will take place in a few weeks’ time.

Rest in Peace

In your mercy, please pray for the repose of the souls of Patrick Cooney, a

faithful parishioner who regularly attended Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes, and

Mrs. Irene Davis, a faithful parishioner who attended Mass at 11am at St. Teilo’s

until moving into care at the BUPA home in Heol Don. Mr. Cooney’s Requiem

Mass is on Friday, February 12th at St. Teilo’s at noon. Details of Mrs Davis Requiem are not yet

available. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance is limited to family members and invited

guests. However online attendance at Mrs. Cooney’s Requiem Masses will be available on the

Parish Livestream.

Please pray also for those whose anniversaries occur at this time: Canon Thomas Keane,

The Presentation of the Lord – February 2nd

On Tuesday the Church celebrates the feast of the Presentation of the Lord Jesus in the

Temple. The Presentation occurred forty days after the birth of Jesus and has been known for

many years as Candlemas due to the blessing and procession of candles which is included in

the feast's liturgy.

While we will not be able to gather for the procession of Candles on Tuesday, Fr. Dwayne will

bless candles in the Church and offer blessings for any candles you have at home on this

special day when we celebrate the Great Light which has come into the World.

Parish Advisory Council Meeting – February 4th

The Parish Advisory Council will be meeting via Zoom next Thursday, February 4th at 7.30pm.

The Chair, Mrs Madeleine Walters, will send the joining details to all Parish Advisory Council

members on Thursday morning.

Saint of the Month - February 1st – St. Brigid

St. Brigid was devoted to the poor and many miracles are

attributed to her involving the multiplication of food such as

butter. For this reason, she is often depicted in icons with a

cow lying at her feet. Another miracle attributed to her involves

the changing of bath water into beer.

St. Brigid founded Kildare Abbey and several other Abbeys in

Ireland. Next to St. Patrick, she is Ireland’s most beloved Saint and Patron of our

neighbouring Parish Church in Crystal Glen.

The miracle of food multiplication can be found in several places in the Bible. You may want to

read the account of Jesus multiplying the 5 loaves and 2 fish in the Gospels (Matthew 14:13-21,

Mark 6:30-44, Luke 9:10-17, John 6:1-14) or Elijah’s prophecy that the Widow at Zarephath’s

flour and oil would not run out before the end of the drought (1 Kings 17:7-16).

She is the Patron Saint of (among others): Ireland, poets and dairymaids.

An Invitation to Hope: Mission through Prayer and Lament

The Bible Society invites the Church to gather online to pray and lament for our nation, as we

seek God together.

This ecumenical event will be held on Tuesday, February 9th from 10:00 – 11:30 am.

Led by Christian leaders from multiple traditions and cultural spheres, we will spend time in

lament, prayer and reflection, asking God what He is doing and how we can partner with Him in

a new wave of mission across our country. Fr. Timothy Radcliffe OP will be one of the

speakers.

We so hope you will be able to join the event. You can book your free place now.

For all couples whose wedding plans have been impacted by the pandemic

In recognition of the turmoil that social distancing and various lockdown restrictions have had on

those planning to marry over the past 12 months and for the foreseeable future, the

Archdiocesan Family Life Commission is to hold a special Service of Unity and Commitment on

Saturday, February 13th at 11am, be led by Canon Matthew Jones (FLC Priest Advisor) and

Deacon Christian Mahoney in St Brigid's, Cardiff.

Participation will be via livestream only, though couples will be given the opportunity to play an

active role in the liturgy; details together with the Order of Service will be available via 3

Churches parish website, http://3churches.org

The webcam link for the service is http://3churches.org/streamed-masses/

Whilst this is primarily a service for the couples affected themselves, all are welcome to tune

and join the Family Life Commission in praying for these couples whose married lives have not

got off to the start everyone would hope for.

A Prayer for Respect for Life

Father, You gave us the gift of life and You called it “very good”.

We thank You for the gift of life,

help us to always welcome it with joy and reverence.

Please give us the grace to value and the courage to defend

the dignity of all human persons from conception to natural death.

We ask for healing and reconciliation

for all affected by abortion, suicide, euthanasia,

and all abuses to the sanctity of human life.

Help them to know Your unending mercy

and be filled with Your peace.

We pray for all those struggling with difficult or overwhelming decisions.

Place in their lives supportive men and women

to lead them to You and provide for their needs.

Fill them with hope and strength.

We pray for all in leadership roles

that they would defend the value of all human life at all stages.

Give them the courage and charity to defend the right to life.

We ask this in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

Praying for the Sick and the Dead

We have a long-standing tradition of praying for the sick and the recently deceased by name

during our Masses on weekdays. During the pandemic, we are remembering our sick and dead

at each Mass. Please do let me know if you would like me to add someone to the sick list or the

list of the recently deceased. To do so, please email me on [email protected] ensuring that

you include the person’s name and whether (s)he should be added to the sick list or the list of

those who have died.
