ST. JUDE SCHOLARSHIP FUND The St. Jude Scholarship Fund was begun by an anonymous alumnus of Iowa State University’s class of 1955. As an Iowa State
University student, he experienced difficulties in his studies. He prayed to St. Jude, patron saint of desperate or hopeless cases. The
donor successfully passed his classes.
In the mid 1980’s, in gratitude, the donor established the St. Jude Scholarship Fund to financially assist current Catholic student leaders. Recipients must be juniors or seniors who have been exercising leadership positions at St. Thomas Aquinas. This year
scholarships are $1,500.00. This fund also assists students attending educational and service experiences, including alternative spring
breaks.

MSGR. JAMES A. SUPPLE ENDOWMENT
Many alumni support our ministry by giving to the Supple Endowment. Msgr. “James from Ames” was a long time pastor of St. Thomas
Aquinas. Interest from the fund provides approximately 60% of the ministerial cost of our Campus Ministry program.

Meeting Summary
September 14
The Parish Council met at 7:00 PM, September 14.
After hearing commission reports the council
deliberated on and reached consensus for response to requests for information pertaining to current and
former parishioners.
It was reported that:
The annual “basement sale” successfully
redistributed parishioners used clothing and housewares at low prices to people in need while
nevertheless producing a “good” revenue for the
parish.
Angelina Willard has been hired as the Youth
Minister. She presented her plans to the St.
Thomas Aquinas Board of Education.
The Deanery Council Representative reported that
the Archdiocese is urging that each Parish Council pray for a broader vision of its role, and to review
mission statements and structures pertaining to
involvement of parishioners in the work of the
parish.
The Council deliberations on parishioner information
policy focused first on a request by the Knights of Columbus to use the parish mailing list for the annual
“Tootsie Roll Drive.” The drive raises funds for local
agencies such as Friendship Ark Homes that serve persons with intellectual disabilities and the Iowa
Special Olympics. After discussion of pro’s and
con’s, it was the consensus that, in light of their many
services to the Parish, the request of the Knights of Columbus be granted, with the understanding that the
request may not be granted in the future if there are
adverse repercussions to this use of parishioner information.
The second issue was requests for parishioner
information that entail staff time. It is the consensus of the Parish Council that staff time should not be
allocated for such requests. Staff will refer persons
requesting parishioner information to the current and past parish directories available in the parish library.
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM. The next meeting is October 12.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
St. James warns in today’s second reading that those who hoard

IN YOUR PRAYERS
+ Together we lift up those intentions on our
Prayer Board in the Gathering Space +
Please pray for the repose of the souls of Arby Neppel, father of
Jerry Neppel, and Marvin Klaus, father of John Klaus.
In solidarity with our sister community in
Honduras: Please pray for the people in Honduras who are facing a critical situation. It is relatively peaceful throughout the
diocese of Santa Rosa de Copán, but the bishop and the
diocesan pastoral council have been outspoken in critique
of the coup d’état. For ongoing information about the bishop's role in the situation, check out John Donaghy’s
