KIDS HOPE Mentors shrieking in fright over a legless lizard, kids helping lift a 10 1/2 foot
Burmese python, and tarantulas on top of heads are just a few of the
scenes you would have witnessed at the Kids Hope Christmas party. Kids
and adults alike were on the edge of their seats during the traveling
animal show, Hedgehog Hanna, from Indianapolis. The kids got to touch
an American alligator and Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as nuzzle noses
with an adorable rabbit and pet a beautiful Arctic fox named Jon Snow.
Mr. Snow was the springboard for our Arctic themed party. We started
out by making Arctic animal crafts before the show and enjoyed special
snowflake cookies made by Carla Henry after having pizza. Thank you to
Diane Layton and Gary Fears for coming to help with pizza, drinks, and
other party logistics so the mentors could enjoy the time with their
students. The party ended with an intense game of Snowball Olympics
where Miss Jill’s Polar Bears team walked away with the gold. Due to the
generosity of the church we were able to give each child a huge bag
filled with presents to take home as they left. We so appreciate the
addition of a warm and fuzzy blanket for each child from Tom and JoEllen
Thompson. This was certainly the kids’ most treasured and useful gift! The
party was the culmination of a wonderful 2019 for Kids Hope. It’s always
so much fun to witness the mentor-child relationships during the parties.
We are so fortunate to have such dedicated mentors. Mentors who are
even willing to face their fears and show their students how to be brave!
We are looking forward to an exciting year in 2020! - Kirsten Morrison-Kids
Hope Co-Director.

The sewing ministry is returning with a new project for winter.
From January through March we will sew for Quilts of
Compassion. This organization distributes handmade blankets
of all sizes to families impacted by natural disaster as a tangible
reminder of God’s love. Over the last 8 years, the organization
has been able to deliver 25,000 quilts.
All blankets are accepted, however twin sized are needed the
most. Also, highly needed are blankets with themes for teens
and adult males. *Sports team specific and holiday themed
blankets will not be accepted by the organization.
You don’t have to sew to help! We need people who can:
Knit or Crochet, cut fabric, make quilt labels, quilt finished tops,
or donate supplies (woven cotton or flannel, thread, or quilt
batting).
Join us as we begin again—January 25th at 9:00 AM!
January 5, 2020 Jesus Begins His Ministry in Prayer Mark 1: 35-45
Read Mark 1: 35-45. (Also scan through verses 21-34, what
was the reaction to what may have been Jesus’ first
sermon?
How does Jesus choose to begin His day?
What do you think modern Christians (i.e., you and me)
should learn from this account?
Why do you think Jesus wanted to leave so quickly (vs. 38)?
It is obvious that Jesus’ preaching was much more
important than the miracles He performed. Why do you
think he performed so many miracles?
We are not told too much about the where and when of
the next miracle, just that a leper asks to be healed and
Jesus does so. What does Jesus ask the man to do?
What was the outcome?
Today, it seems that making New Year’s resolutions is not as
popular as it once was. However, based on today’s
scripture, what resolutions may be worth considering?
What drew you or is drawing you to Jesus?
How might we pray for one another today?
