Introduction The 21stcentury workplace will be different not only in form
and function, but in location and time. Successful workerswill adapt to the changing needs of the workplace byacquiring transferable skills in information and
communication technology and by their willingness tobecome anytime/anyplace employees. While someworkers will be fulltime core employees, many more willbecome part time or temporary or project-basedemployees. A traditional career track may become
obsolete, but the prepared worker will find job security byacquiring value-added skills that will allow him to be in
demand across a wide range of jobs. Flexibility and acommitment to excellence are keys to employment successin the 21st century workplace.

Geographical BoundariesGeographical boundaries have also become blurred
because of technology. While it is widely assumedthat the outsourcing of U.S. jobs to countries suchas India and China occur because of availability ofcheap labor, an important reason is the availabilityof highly skilled international workforce willing towork nontraditional schedules on a part-time ortemporary basis.

Easy Career Path? Nada Chance!Work that isn't considered to be part of the core competency
of the corporation will be out-sourced or performed bytemporary part-time or contract workers.
Eventually perhaps half the U.S. workforce will be employed inpart-time, temporary contract work. Full-time permanent jobswith benefits will be reserved to a select few highly skilledcore employees.
21st century workers must adapt to project-based or a cyclicalwork-period or full-time work interspersed with periods of no
work. Flex-time and job-sharing will become common options for many
workers, and the advantages of these arrangements havealready made them attractive alternatives.

change in communication isthe development of aseemingly universal weblanguage.
Culled from chat rooms, web
logs, and e-mail, web slang isa combination of words, phase acronyms, andemotions (symbols used todisplay feeling).
A digital native is a personwho can easily decipher web
slang. A digital immigrant has a bit
more trouble catching thedrift of a digital conversation
