I. WAITING AND TREMBLING (Habakkuk 3:16) A. Habakkuk hears and trembles 1. The fear of the Lord results in trembling for Habakkuk (Habakkuk 3:2) 2. The thought of God’s justice causes Habakkuk to tremble (3: 16; Acts 24:24–25) 3. There will be a judgement day when all injustices will be redressed. This means we shouldn’t grow despondent, nor should we become vigilantes (Habakkuk 3:16; Romans 12:17–21) B. From wailing to waiting (Habakkuk 1:2; 3:16) 1. True of every lament, we must state our complaint, recall God’s promis- es, and trust God in the end (Psalm 13) 2. We must not waste our waiting, but pursue justice and righteousness (Jeremiah 22:3; Isaiah 1:17; Psalm 33:4–5) II. TAKE JOY IN GOD EVEN WHEN TIMES ARE HARD (Habakkuk 3:17–19) A. Acknowledge the trying times and different circumstances (Habakkuk 3:17) 1. The scarcity of provisions 2. The fear of the unknown B. Choose to take joy in God (Habakkuk 3:18; Psalm 13:5; Romans 5:3–5) C. The righteous shall live by faith in the promises of God 1. We are strengthened through faith 2. We remember God is sovereign 3. We remember God is holy SERMON OUTLINE NOTES week six MAY 31, 2020 HABAKKUK 3:16-19 PASTOR PHIL WARD Take Joy in God
