Centacare is committed to improving the wellbeing of people living with dementia. As a part of their new

dementia strategy, they are encouraging people interested in participating in the Dementia Friends

initiative run by Dementia Australia. A dementia friend is someone who is keen to help their community become

more understanding of people living with dementia. Stigma and discrimination against people with dementia is common and people often feel, that they are treated with less respect, dignity and understanding than other members of society. Dementia friends encourage an enhanced awareness of the feelings and needs of

people with dementia by learning a little bit more about what it’s like to live with dementia. They in turn channel this understanding into a practical action, that makes

a difference to people’s lives. Brisbane East Deanery is

hoping to host a ‘BECOME A DEMENTIA FRIEND’ session:

March 13 10am at Regina Caeli. Session is likely to be an hour in duration plus some

bomb attacks outside the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel & its surrounding area,

for families & friends who grieve the deaths of loved ones & for survivors, for their families living in Australia
