Week of May 4th Learning Plan

We want to be considerate of each individual’s current situation. The learning plan  below is only a suggestion of what might be completed during the week. We

understand and acknowledge that keeping this weekly schedule might not be  possible for your current circumstance, all the while, some may want this type of

structure. Wherever you land on the continuum, please know we honor whatever  the child in your care can complete and we do not have the expectation that you take

the role of the “teacher.” Thank you for anything you are able to provide and help  during these unprecedented times. As we know, our hope is that our students stay

physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually engaged, safe, and healthy.

Literacy

Monday   Tuesday   Wednesday   Thursday   Friday

Decode and write  the words with an  apostrophe, which

takes a vowel sound  away. Highlight and  read the sentences.

Read the story, which  is told by the

characters, in speech  bubbles and answer

the questions.

Practice the sight  words, read the

sentences and write  your own.

Read the story and  answer the  questions.

Write a story about  YOU! This is a

personal narrative.  Make sure it has a  beginning, middle

As always, the best thing you can do with the child(ren) in your care is to read to them. Pick their favorite  book or your favorite children’s book and read with the child. It’s also fun to have storytelling time. Ask the  child to tell you a pretend story and you can make one up, too.

Science:  Day 2: Build a Raft

1. With someone from your family, gather materials and  the boat you made yesterday.

2. You will need a small tub filled halfway with water,  access to an outdoor area, a stone (sad face optional),  and a timing device. (If you don’t have access to the  outdoors, you can do this in your kitchen or bathroom.  If you make a mess, clean it up!)

3. Your Challenge: A sad stone landed on a deserted island and wants to go back  home! You need to put the stone in the boat you made and see how long it takes  for the stone to get from one side of the tub to the otherside (his home). He may  need a little help from the wind or a fan.

4. Record your findings. Did your boat float? Did your stone make it back home?  How long did it take?
