This weekend’s Gospel once again visits the reality of the harassment Jesus endured at the hands of His detractors. This time the Pharisees try to trip him up about what should be the greatest commandment. Quite eloquently, Jesus reminds them, and all of us, that the most important commandment is love. Expressing love and doing the right thing can be difficult. It can seem to be a lot easier to hold a grudge, rash judge and be nasty with one another. We must remember that poor, sinful behavior can lead to worse sin and degrade not only an individual but have negative ramifications upon an entire society. As Christ’s disciples of love we have to be advocates of love even when it may be difficult to do so. Speaking of love, let’s do all that we can to lovingly welcome and assist our new bishop. It is never easy to move. Imagine having to arrive in Northwest Ohio and suddenly being responsible for shepherding the souls of all the Roman Catholics in this area. Wednesdays Masses we will have in McFadden Hall. SUPPORT OUR RETIRED PRIESTS: Once a priest retires he is responsible for his own personal expenses: medical, housing, car, clothing and food. A gift of cash or check can be sent to Perpetuate The Gift, PO Box 954, Toledo, OH 43697 or placed in your parish collection. A gift may also be made online at www.ourpriest.org. If you would like to give a gift of stock or designate a bequest to help our retired priests, please contact the Catholic Foundation at 419-244-6711. BIBLE STUDY: I have had several requests for an adult Bible Study. If you are interested, please call the Parish Office at 419-347-2381, Barb Pifher. My Dear Parishioners, By the time you read this we will finally have a newly

installed bishop. I haven’t yet met Bishop Daniel Thomas, but I have heard good things about him and I was impressed with his initial letter to the Diocese of Toledo on the day of his appointment. Perhaps by the time I preach this weekend, I’ll have more to share with you about his Installation Mass at the Rosary Cathedral in Toledo.

It seems to be quite a daunting task. I struggle with pastoring two parishes. Let’s pray that Bishop Daniel Thomas will succeed and that we will be able to love him.

Have a blessed week.

Greetings from St. Mary’s School

A ministry of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church Save the date! Our students will be holding a Veterans’

Day celebration with light refreshments after Mass on Nov 5th.

Thank you for the great feedback on the bazaar! Based on your thoughts, we have made a few more tweaks to the Christmas Bazaar planning. We will open the candy & bake shops ONLY for a 3-hrs on Saturday, December 6

th from 9

a.m. – Noon for an Early Bird Sale! During the Saturday Early Bird Sale, we will offer shredded chicken sandwiches and popcorn. Proceeds from the sandwiches and popcorn sales will go toward helping local families in need with Christmas. Don’t forget to come back on Sunday! On Sunday Dec. 7

th, we

will open at 10 a.m. for visitors. However, we will not host a hotcake breakfast. We will begin serving your choice of cabbage rolls or swiss steak dinners (kids choice of hot dogs and mac & cheese available) at 11 a.m. The kitchen will serve dinners as long as supplies last. Come early, these amazing dinners go fast! Raffles will start at 5 p.m.!

New this year is the Pinterest Party Room (open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday), where you can join us to make your choice of 3 different crafts for Christmas (or choose to make all-three!). There will also be 3 different crafts for kids to make. Each adult craft is only $25 each or complete all 3 for $60. Reserve your seat by Nov. 28

th and receive a

discount ($20 each/$50 for all 3). You receive a free kid’s craft with each adult craft purchase ($5 each without an adult craft). These make great gifts! Reservations are not required, but are recommended! Supplies are limited. More information & reservation forms will be included with the main raffle tickets and in the upcoming bulletin.

Breaking News! St. Mary's school is now an eligible preschool provider under the ODJFS child care program. Please contact Richland County Job & Family Services if you feel you qualify for financial assistance. If you have friends who were looking for a great program, please refer them! We do have 3 seats in the morning 4-yr. old program, and 6 seats available in the Tue/Thu afternoon program for 3-yr. olds. To be eligible, a family’s income must be below 125 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. After that, families may remain eligible unless their income becomes greater than 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. Although we cannot recommend daycare providers for before/after school care, we do have a list of ODJFS providers in the area who may be able to help with before/after school care available at the school office.

CALENDAR CHANGES: We have an opportunity to re-align our school calendar to follow the public school early dismissals again. The revised calendar also allows for an additional professional development day for teachers to take place on Nov. 6th. There will be no school on Nov. 6th for St. Mary's School students. The early dismissals are 1 time each quarter. The first early dismissal we will observe is Nov. 12th. There will be bus transportation. Due to the schedule changes, we will be moving the Picture Day re-takes to Nov. 13th, beginning at 12:45 p.m. Thank you for your patience as we make adjustments that benefit everyone!

We are truly blessed, Lisa M. Rhodes, Principal
