At this point in the year, we would be teaching phase 6 phonics, but as you know all children

are different and there are a variety of levels of readers within one class so feel free to use

these phased activities where appropriate. Parents: please use our guidance sheet if you are

unsure on some of the language used in phonics, it was uploaded a few weeks ago.

Phase 3: Use Phonics play and select Phase 3 and have a go at Buried Treasure and Revise all

Phase 3. https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/BuriedTreasure2.html

Phase 4: Play ‘Make a Match’ on phonicsplay. https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-

only/MatchingPh4.html

Phase 4: Mrs Mundy has also done the next phonics video for you to take a look at, you will

Math

s This week we have set out daily 10 quick arithmetic tasks. This consists of 6 questions to

answer. Children can use practical equipment, pictorial representations or written methods to

work these out. See below activity 4: arithmetic questions.

MODULE: Measuring Length and Mass

1. If you have a ruler, measure some small objects around your

house and write a sentence comparing two objects. Here is an

example: pencil 5cm > paper clip 3cm.

You can write as many comparing sentences as you would like.

DON’T FORGET… You could compare 3 objects 4cm < 8cm > 2cm.

Can you remember how many cms are in 1 metre? Well done if

you said 100cms. If you have a big enough ruler or an adult can

help, you can measure bigger objects too!

2. Take a walk around your house and find some small objects to pick up and have a guess

at how heavy they are. Choose two small objects. Hold one in each hand and compare

their mass! Which one is heavier? Which is lighter? Now find two more objects that

are different and compare their mass. Repeat the same activity as above. Tell your

adult in full sentences which is heavier and which is lighter. Remember to use full

sentences!

3. Have you ever baked with a grown up? Use the cupcake

recipe below (See below activity 5: Recipe) to make

some yummy cakes! We would like YOU to measure the

ingredients using some kitchen scales, but make sure a

grown up is next to you to check that you can read the

scales accurately! Before you put food on the scales

just place them if you can on your hand and have a feel.

Maybe you could compare the flour with the egg, which feels

heavier? Weigh them. Are you right? Have fun! Mrs Greed

made some too; watch her baking on YouTube! Use this link: https://youtu.be/wnNeM2B7la8 We would love to see some of your cakes too so please send

any to the school email for us to see too.(We mean photos,

sadly we can’t receive real cake though email)
