25th August 2016 - Week 5
Term 3
Hi Everyone,
It’s the Speech season for our seniors, and what a great effort our children are making. We were enter-
tained with an excellent selection of speeches at yesterday’s assembly. Thanks to parents and teachers
for your support and help with encouraging our children to develop a very valuable life skill – the ability
to speak in front of a group.
Emma S who was in last year’s Golden Bay Schools speech competition was finally rewarded with her me-
dallion for her placement of 2nd= in the Year 4 section in 2015.
Emma – I was very surprised to get the medallion in assembly. I always knew it was going to come and I felt really excited to finally get it.
Daffodil Day Gala: Our Fundraiser for the Cancer Society Yes, it’s still on tomorrow. Even with the unpredictable weather we are giving our best shot.
Start time is 12pm.
All of the classrooms will be running stalls, please let their teacher know if you are available to help. The
Gala will start at 12pm and everyone is welcome to attend. We ask that all of the children wear their
brightest yellow, orange and green clothing. Tokens will be exchanged for money (20c = 1 token).
Teacher Only Afternoon: Next Tuesday 30th August.
A reminder that school will be closed next Tuesday afternoon from 12 noon to allow all staff at Motupipi
and all Golden Bay schools, to attend an information meeting about the Community of Learners.
Reward Voucher Results:
The following children were rewarded with a small prize at assembly this week for good behaviour, help-
fulness or great school work:
Arjuna G Rm5, Zara Rm2, Louis Rm4, Maren Rm5, Wirimu Rm2, Saxon Rm3, Elisa Rm1,
Caitlin A Rm1, Matthew Rm2, Sanai Rm2, Taya Rm3, Scarlett Rm3. This is 10% of all our students. Those
who missed out in this assembly’s draw will go into an end-of-term draw for some bigger prizes in the last
assembly of the term.
Arjuna G – I got my voucher for picking up heaps of rubbish. I was really surprised when I was picked
last. My prize was a waddling toy, it’s fun.
Louis – I got my voucher for sprinting really hard at cross country. My prize is a green highlighter. I was
really pleased with it.
Scarlett – I felt really good when my ticket came out. I picked out a dinosaur from the prize box. Now I
keep it in my book bag. I was really pleased.
Matthew – I got my voucher from Wendy for being nice and quiet. I got a big drink bottle, it’s in my bag.
Elisa – I got a voucher for helping keep the room tidy by sweeping the floor. I picked out a little dinosaur
– it’s now at home.
Sports News:
We are very proud of two of our students who have gained a place in the Nelson Rep Teams for Rugby –
Riley O, and for Football – Jay A.
Jay – I had to play in Nelson with 81 others to show how good I was to see if I could get into the Nel-son Football Rep Team. It felt great when I did. Mum and Dad are really proud of me. Riley – I was pleased when I was nominated for the under 11 Rugby Rep trials. I play lock and I was one of the best locks there, so I was in, because they needed me. We play against Murchison, Buller and Blenheim. My family are really happy with me and I was pleased because my brothers are also in the Reps.
Thanks Nick Farr (Acting Principal)

Cross Country by Mav
Cross Country is a school run. It is at Collingwood School.
I ran it. I came 14th Place. I did two laps. I took over Kiyo
and Brody. Kiyo came 15th. I
felt proud. My Dad and Grandparents came. They
were really proud of me too.
The Cross Country in Collingwood by Teru
I was excited but nervous when we got called to the starting line. There were 24 people in the race and I started near the front. I had
a metre lead but there were two laps. I ended up 1st and Sawyer came second. I never knew he was that fast. I was amazed that
Motupipi got first and second.
Last Thursday it was Cross Country in Collingwood. I
sawyer, came 2nd in the 7 year olds. I felt good. I was proud.
We had to do two laps. I had never done two laps be-fore. It was such a long way. I tried to beat Teru, but
he was too fast for me.
I was really proud when I had to go up and get my cer-tificate, but they called my name out wrong. They
called me Buschl Green. At first I didn’t know they meant me. They are sending me a new certificate with
Sawyer on it. Sawyer
Cross Country by Malika
I felt nervous when we started the race. On the first round I man-aged to run straight through the mud. Others ran around the mud
and were slower. On the second round I realised it was quicker to run straight through the mud. I am proud of myself because I came
6th out of all the 7 year olds in Golden Bay.
