CARDINALS TAKE PART IN PUSH FOR JUSTICE

Throughout the 2020 season, Cardinals players and coaches are joining the rest of the NFL in honoring and memorializing vic ms of systemic racism and showing their support for Social Jus ce eff orts by displaying names or phrases as decals on the back of their helmets and patches on their caps.

The season-long eff ort highlights the ac ons being taken to reach solu ons, engages fans to act and gives players and coaches a pla orm on gameday to share their voice and eff orts to inspire change. Together, the NFL is joining its players and coaches in building awareness, educa ng fans and paying homage to those who deserve to have their legacies live on.

The NFL is partnering with players to tell the stories of the vic ms or phrase that they have chosen to honor on their helmets. Fans are able to learn more about these stories and how to get involved at nfl .com/inspirechange.

CARDINALS SPEAKING UPNumerous Cardinals players spoke up about their own experiences and the importance of making meaningful change a reality in the United States.

OL Kelvin Beachum - 11/20/20OL Kelvin Beachum par cipated in an NFL-produced video "Say Their Sto-ries" and discussed Breonna Taylor specifi cally:

"Saying her name is not just a slogan that we're pu ng on the back of our helmets. It's more than that. It's a rallying cry for Black women all across America, to realize how special she is and how special she was."

DL Corey Peters - 8/28/20DL Corey Peters spoke about how important it is that everyone engage in the conversa ons and understand other viewpoints:

“One thing we want to do is be sensi ve to one another, have compassion for one another, and we can disagree with certain things peacefully and all work towards the same goal of not only winning but make this a be er country for everybody."

OL D.J. Humpries - 8/28/20OL D.J. Humphries spoke about his children being a major mo vator in trying to help bring about change:

“I know how to accept what the world has for you. I know how to maneuver in this world. But for my children, that's not what I want. I want my children to grow up in a fair world and grow up in a world where what the Cons tu- on says is how it really is."

Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury - 8/27/2020Kingsbury talked about what the Cardinals players and coaches have been dis-cussing and learning from each other during recent events across the country:

"I had a great conversa on with my dad over the summer, and his perspec- ve on things that was really valuable as we get closer to the season – the

anthem, discussions and things of that nature.

“My dad was a long me football coach but also a Marine. He served in Vietnam, received a Purple Heart. Talking to him, there were two words that really stood out. One was respect, and the second thing was under-standing. Respect viewpoints people have on this topic. They’re very per-sonal and very passionate. And respect their right to express themselves.

“You’ve got to understand, at its core, what this is really about. It’s always been about drawing a en on to the social injus ce that con nues to take place. We saw it again this week with Jacob Blake. It’s about increasing awareness that racism exists, police brutality against people of color con- nues to happen, and let’s not confuse it with something else and make

the narra ve diff erent.

“My biggest takeaway from talking to my dad is that kneeling doesn’t re-fl ect a lack of patrio sm or respect for the military in any way, just like standing during the anthem doesn’t mean you’re OK with racism or social injus ce. It’s important to respect and understand that. These are impor-tant issues that need to be addressed, and important conversa ons that need to be had. I’m grateful that I’ve been able to be around a great group of guys that have enlightened me – hearing their stories and their strug-gles. Those conversa ons will con nue throughout the year. I just hope we can all con nue to push in the right direc on.”

QB Kyler Murray - 6/17/20Following the death of George Floyd and the resul ng protests around the country, Murray spoke the change he saw happening in real me:

"There is a lot of hate in this world, but at the same me, what's happen-ing and what we're seeing right now, it's huge. I don't condone rio ng and stuff like that, but the peaceful protests, I think they're great, they're amaz-ing. Whether it takes years, I feel like we're ge ng there. At least we're making a step towards it."

LEE STILL ON TOP OF HIS GAME

The only game ball given out following the Cardinals Week 5 victory over the Jets went to third-year LB Dennis Gardeck – adding a new chapter in the inspiring story the former undra ed rookie authored on his way to the NFL playing fi eld.

Playing the fi rst defensive snaps of his ca-reer, Gardeck – a special teams captain who signed with the Cardinals as a rookie free agent out of the University of Sioux Falls in 2018 – fi nished the game against the Jets with 2.0 sacks in just 10 defensive snaps.

His second quarter sack of Jets QB Joe Flacco was his fi rst sack since his senior year at Sioux Falls in 2017.

It was a big performance for the Lake of the Hills, IL na ve but it wasn't the fi rst success he has experienced in the NFL.

A special teams standout in his fi rst two seasons, Gardeck was named a Pro Bowl alternate in 2019 a er pos ng a team-high 10 tackles and a fumble recovery. In 41 career games, he has 25 special teams tackles, three punt defl ec ons, a fumble recovery on a fake punt and a TD on a blocked punt. In 2018, he led all NFL rookies with 388 total snaps on special teams.

A SMALL SCHOOL STANDOUT AND FAST FOOD STARGardeck's path to the NFL didn't run through a blue-chip college. Following high school, he a ended Division II West Virginia State University for three seasons before spending his fi nal college season at Sioux Falls as a graduate transfer. He was a standout in college though.

He recorded 345 tackles, 32.0 sacks, 57.5 tackles for loss, nine forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries in four seasons and was named to fi ve Division II All-America teams as a senior in 2017.

He kept himself busy off the fi eld during his college days as well. He earned a degree from West Virginia State (Gardeck is currently studying for a Masters of Business Administra on degree) while also working at McDonald's. He started out on the grill crew but "worked his way up" to the assembly table and fryars. “It feels weird saying it was a good fi t, but I had a blast there,” he said. “I loved it. I loved my coworkers.”

ALL-PRO HOPKINS HAPPY FOR HIS TRAINING PARTNERFollowing the win over the Jets, WR DeAndre Hopkins spoke of how happy he was to see Gardeck's hard work paying off . "I rehabbed and trained with Dennis this off season before I came here and I saw the work that he put in. I got to see the work he put in behind the scenes and for him to go in do what he did today, I knew he was going to give his all and it resulted in two sacks. That is what you look for in a guy like that. It gives the team mo va on."

TRADING THE DEEP FRYER FOR A GAME BALL

In Week 10, the Cardinals signed CB Johna-than Joseph, a two- me Pro Bowl selec on who is in his 15th NFL season in 2020.

In his career, Joseph has played 210 games (192 starts) and has 780 tackles (663 solo), 32 INTs, 8 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recover-ies and 200 passes defensed. He has scored 8 TDs in his career (7 INT return; 1 fumble return).

The 36-year old Joseph entered the league with Cincinna as a fi rst-round selec on (24th

overall) in the 2006 NFL Dra out of South Carolina and spent his fi rst fi ve seasons in the league with the Bengals before signing as a free agent with Houston in 2011 where he played the next nine seasons.

Now with the Cardinals, Joseph reunites with defensive coordinator Vance Jo-seph who was his posi on coach in Houston between 2011-13.

Below are a few facts about Joseph's career:

His 32 career INTs rank 3rd among ac ve players behind only Richard Sher-man (36) and Tramon Williams (34).

To assist in mee ng this direly pressing need, the Cardinals partnered with Dignity Health and Cigna to host a major one-day blood drive at State Farm Stadium. In conjunc on with Sco sdale-based Vitalant (pronounced “vye-TAL-ent” and formerly known as United Blood Services) the event took place at State Farm Stadium on March 31.
