Drafting the Section-Elevation

• The section-elevation cut location is indicated by the reference marker in the plan, with the direction of the view indicated by the position of the end lines (could also be arrows).

• It is generally advisable to take section cuts through openings in the walls in order relate them to the elevations.

• Start by drafting the sectional elements – locate the openings in the section.

• Next locate the major architectural elements from the plan – walls, windows.

• Next locate the major furniture elements from the plan – chairs, tables, etc.

• Details of furniture and furnishing elements can be obtained from catalogs and Interior Design and Architecture Graphic Standards books (or websites).

• Finally, add in all the extra details (cabinetry, moldings, accessories, entourage) to complete the elevational picture, building up your line weights to their proper relationships in order to better read depth.
