From the Principal’s desk…
It’s hard to believe that we are already at the
end of Term 3. This is the time of year that we
farewell our Year 12 students as they complete
their thirteen years of schooling. We have our
UCS Year 12 Graduation tonight, where we will
celebrate the efforts and achievements of
Isabelle, Margaret and Mikell. It is hard to
believe that the little people I taught back in
primary school all of those years ago are now
graduating! The whole school has enjoyed
discovering what our Year 12’s are dressed in
each day, and what bell songs they have chosen
to go with their outfits.
On Monday we had
superheroes, Tuesday
was animals, yesterday
was party clothes for
Margaret’s birthday and
today we have some
hippies from the 70’s!
Tomorrow is their last
day at school and they
will then spend the next
few weeks studying for their HSC exams next
term.
Tomorrow is Miss Kailey Colwill’s last day on
her 4th year internship at UCS. Year 3/4 have
enjoyed the last five weeks with Miss Kailey
Colwill in the classroom. Congratulations on
completing your university degree Miss
Colwill, we wish you all the best in your future
teaching career!
On Monday, we held our whole school
assembly. We were treated to a number of
performances, with the Year 3-6 recorder
group playing with Mrs Mason and Braden
Payne playing ‘Blackbird’ on guitar
accompanied by Mrs Roscarel on the flute. It
was also great to see the completed lights from
the 7/8 Tech Mandatory class that they
showed us earlier this term. We had not had an
assembly for quite a while therefore there were
many ten and twenty Habit of Mind awards to
hand out. Congratulations to those students
who received awards.
On Tuesday, Mrs Mason held a mini concert
with students in K-6. It was a great afternoon
of musical and drama performances, which I
thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you Mrs Mason for
your organisation.
There are many reports of underage drinking
by our older students, which is extremely
concerning. With the holidays here, it is a
timely reminder for our students to stay safe
and make good choices. We want to see
everyone return healthy and happy next term!

Thank you to all those parents who were able to make it to the Whole School Assembly, Parent/Teacher interviews and/or the mini-concert. We know that it is not always possible with other commitments getting in the way, but it is always wonderful to see the support our students have. Remember, that if you were unable to attend Parent/Teacher interviews on Monday that you can make a time to catch up with your child’s teacher at any time.
After such a busy term and with the coughs and colds
at the end of winter, students are looking forward to
a well-deserved break. If your children are bored and
wondering what to do, they can always log on to
Reading Express or Mathletics and strain their brains
a little. They can also open up a book and read and
record it in their Home Reading Journals.

SPELLING BEE
On Friday 14th September, Caitlin Rossiter, Darcy Cattle, Kate Jackson and Josh Batty competed in the Regional
Spelling Bee via video conference. It was very exciting to be able to connect with so many small schools and be part
of such an interesting competition. Thank you to the friends and family members who came to quietly cheer on the
students – we were all relieved at some point in time to not have to spell some of the words the students had to
face!! Congratulations to our spellers for the diligent studying before the competition and for their enthusiasm
throughout. Darcy made it to Round 2 and was eliminated by ‘Dublin’, Caitlin got to Round 3 and was tricked by ‘Pi’
and Kate was stopped in Round 4 with ‘prehensile’. A special mention to Josh Batty who made it to Round 6. This
round was conducted 3 times until Josh struck out with ‘Archimedes’ coming equal second in the competition for
his year level with some nail biting moments for us to enjoy.

INTERESTING ‘STUDENT’ AT UCS ‘
INTER
On Thursday 13th September, Ungarie Central School hosted ‘The Samba Experience’ performance with Tom Harding.
This performance was separated into Primary and Secondary groups and was an energetic, fast paced and entirely
‘hands-on’ workshop using Brazilian rhythms. The students (and staff) had a fantastic time learning these rhythms
that were challenging, achievable and produced a powerful groove. There was a lot of wonderful noise coming from
our school hall.

THE SAMBA EXPERIENCE
For their assessment task they had to plan, program and test their robot to complete the track. This unit aims to show students how robots and automation aid companies in completing repetitive task. Year 3/4 students then came into the classroom to see what was happening and be inspired. Yr 9/10 took them through the whole process.
Students in Yr 9/10 built mBots as part of the Mechatronics unit in STEM.

SCHOOL SPORTS AUSTRALIA NATIONAL AFL CARNIVAL
From 11th until 18th August Harry Roscarel attended the School Sports Australia National AFL carnival in Canberra
as a member of the NSW PSSA team. Harry was the 1000th ‘Blue Pup’ selected and the first Western School Sports
Association student to play for NSW. The first part of the carnival consisted of playing all the teams from each state
or territory. At the end of this NSW placed 6th out of 8. For the last three days of the carnival the teams were split
into two pools and played against each other for placings. Harry performed well, and stepped up each game. He
received an award for great defensive work in the game against WA and slotted a couple of goals throughout the
carnival. At the end of the week Harry received the ‘Most consistent for NSW’ award. Harry had a great time and
made many new friends. .
