Their hard work and commitment this year has certainly paid oas they were a valuable part of the larger mass choir. Well done to all those students and to Mrs Woods who so generously gives up her Ɵme at lunchƟme to train the choirs. This has followed the Senior Choir’s highly success performances at the Opera House earlier this term. At Monday’s K6 Assembly in the MPC we heard the Chamber Orchestra perform for the rst Ɵme – and what a real treat and delight that was! My thanks to Mrs Cady for generously giving up her lunchƟme to train these students from various grades across the school. Our congratulaƟons also to Year 6 students Chelsea Gompels and Brianna O’Young upon their selecƟon for the Northern Sydney Symphonic Wind Ensemble (NSSWE). These two students represented our school last weekend in the regional Spring Music FesƟval at Chatswood Concourse. The music program here at BHPS oers such a variety: choirs, recorder groups, orchestral ensembles and, of course, the highly success band program, which is growing every year. And next year we hope to grow the band even more. More informaƟon about the band program and the recruitment process will be coming home early next term. FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Beacon Hill is ‘alive with the sound of music’ 

Congratula ons to the Years 3 and 4 students in our Junior Choir who performed at the Sydney 

Town Hall this week as part of the DEC’s Primary Proms Concerts. Their hard work and commit‐

ment this year has certainly paid off as they were a valuable part of the larger mass choir. Well 

done to all those students and to Mrs Woods who so generously gives up her  me at lunch me 

to train the choirs. This has followed the Senior Choir’s highly success performances at the 

Opera House earlier this term.  

At Monday’s K‐6 Assembly in the MPC we heard the Chamber Orchestra perform for the first

back has been overwhelmingly posi ve we have decided to proceed to full implementa on of

Trees Update 

The school’s tree assessment which was carried out by a cer fied arborist as per the DEC guidelines will be acted upon dur‐

ing these coming school holidays. The Asset Management Unit of the DEC has organised and funded these works.  

 

End of Term 

I am sure everyone is looking forward to the school holiday break as it has been an extremely busy term. Much has been 

achieved by individuals and teams as you would have read throughout the term in the Beacon. Term 4 looks to be equally as 

busy. When students return on Tuesday, 7th October it would be appreciated if they were wearing their summer uniforms, 

including the school bucket hat or cap.   Please find a ached with this newsle er the Term 4 Calendar.  Events are also com‐

municated on our School App. 

And on behalf of the staff, I would like to commend the students on their efforts and behaviour, thank the parents for their 

support and involvement and wish you all a happy and safe holiday. We look forward to another produc ve and posi ve 

term.

  Year 6 Great Aussie Bush Camp  It was a pleasure to a end the Great Aussie Bush Camp at Tea Gardens for three days last week with Year 6 and their teachers Mrs How‐

land, Mr Mathewson and Mrs O’Sullivan. Thanks again to the Year 6 teachers for your dedica on and commitment to our students. 

The outdoor educa on program was both engaging and challenging. The ac vi es encouraged students and staff to step outside their 

comfort zone and push themselves to their limits.  

 

A great  me was had by all and I would like to congratulate all of Year 6 on their excellent behaviour during camp. It was pleasing to see 

the high levels of resilience, respect, compassion, coopera on and teamwork amongst our students.  Well done!

MindQuest 2014 On Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 November, the seventy fourth MindQuest program will be held for gi ed and talented students primary 

students from Years 1 ‐6 at Glenwood High School. These include gi ed and talented students, gi ed underachievers and students with 

well above average ability with a special interest. Students will have the opportunity to par cipate in over 36 exci ng, fast paced courses 

in the two day program. They include courses in chemistry, earth sciences, drama, lego robo cs, chemistry and much more. The cost of 

the weekend is $175.

shops on offer and enrolment procedures.  

 

Dream job showcase volunteers needed  for SRC “Dream Day” Fundraiser for Term 4 As part of the “Dream Day” fundraising day we are also invi ng any interested parents who would like to showcase their “dream job” in a 

job taster showcase in the library at lunch me on the day. If you would be prepared to offer one hour of your  me to showcase your 

“job” it would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested please email beaconhill‐[email protected]  

 

Playground Supervision  Playground supervision is provided in the morning from 8.35am to allow parents the opportunity to drop their child off before the start 

of school at 9.05am.  

 

The BH OOSH (Beacon Hill Outside Of School Hours) centre is available onsite for parents who need supervision outside of school hours. 

The BH OOSH operates Monday to Friday, 7.00am to 9.00am and 3.00pm to 6.30pm. For more informa on please go the BH OOSH web‐

Important informa on about PSSA training 

PSSA training for summer sports resumes this Friday morning at 8:00am. Children are reminded to meet their coaches in 

the shade structure area. 

Star ng from the first week back at school next term, the Junior Boys Eagle Tag will train on Wednesday lunch mes in-

stead of Friday mornings. Players need to bring their football boots. 

All other training sessions for Friday mornings will remain unchanged.

Cake Day Thanks  Cake days are always a bit of fun at BHPS and the children get very excited when having to decide on their purchase from the many varie es of cakes and biscuits provided.  Many thanks to the families and friends who donated cakes for  Cake Day last week, we raised $170.  Many thanks to Felicity Harries, the Cake Day Co‐ordinator and to the many parents who volunteered to help on the stall.  REMEMBER….. Cake days are now held on Thursdays!
