DESCRIPTION

Week 1 Confidentiality Discussion 2 Reading the Report: Over 120 UCLA Hospital Staff Saw Celebrity Health Records article, what training could you as a manager put into place to avoid this situation? Present your training idea using any Web 2.0 tools. How can this training on confidentiality be effective for the employees? Confidentiality is of the utmost importance in all that we do in any facet of business. It is especially important in healthcare because of the privacy issues as well as ethical issues that can arise which could lead to litigation and other forms of legal recourse. After reading the report regarding hospital staff viewing celebrity health records unauthorized, it was obvious that additional training is required to eliminate this problem. Below is a list of suggested training techniques which may help to alleviate this issue: • Limit access to a select group of people. • Provide a system that does not expose the entire social security number of other pertinent information to anyone. Only part of the number should be exposed. • Develop random security audits. • Increase training that focuses on establishing a culture of responsibility and accountability. • Provide a system that would automatically detect new threats and intrusion attempts. • Developing a standard set of investigatory documents used to record potential violations and breaches, interviews, and actions taken, including reporting. • Ensure that patient rights, disclosures, policies and procedures related to privacy and security are understood by all involved employees, providers and associates. • Inform all involved employees and providers of the security audit practice and management support to enforce it. However, details of the audits should not be disclosed. • Include training in orientation for all new employees and provide annual refresher training for current employees (http://www.ahima.org). Training that includes each of the above areas can be effective on the employees by making them more accountable and aware of the importance of their job. It can also increase job security and trust which will result in patient satisfaction and security which will establish the hospital for being a place where patients feel and be cared for and safe from the possibility of having their privacy violated.
