Once again, it’s that time of year. Your 3rd graders have been learning about Michigan’s History throughout the year.

MemorizingWe are starting about two months in advance for this project. Next week your student is going to be drawing their character out of a hat. They are going to be researching specific information about their character.

Once they have their information and it has been approved by the teacher your student is going to script this research into paragraph form taking on the character and their way of speaking.

The research will take 2 to 3 weeks. The next month will be dedicated to memorization. During any free time in class the students will be practicing and there will be a copy of their paper sent home so that your child can practice their paragraph with you.

Outfits/Play acting

Not only are the students going to acting like their character they choose, they are going to be expected to dress like their character. These outfits can be simple, for example if your student ends up being a British soldier they can wear a red blazer or jacket with white pants (white baseball pants work). If you are having a difficult time find outfits I do have a few items available for use.On the date of our wax museum, we are going to be set up in the small gym. Each actor will have a Michigan 3-D Seal. To get the actors to speak you need to walk up to them and press the seal button. The actors will begin their speech, when they are done please give them some words of encouragement. They will be expected to retain them image of their character, so please do not

Imagine a wax figure that is dressed up like George Washington, as a figure he is interesting but a little boring. Now, add to that figure a button that you can push to make the figure talk and tell you about his life.

This is the concept of a living wax museum. You student is going to pick a character and become that character. This is a big project and your student will need a little help from you to make his/her acting a success. The following paragraphs explain in more detail what is going to be expected of your
