JAIPUR, May 9: The countrymen should trust the armed forces which have shown their capability by cary- ing out the surgical strike against terrorists, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said today. Speaking in the backdrop of the recent killing of Indian sol- diers along the Line of Control, the Minister asserted that the nation's honour would not be allowed to be harmed under any circumstances. "People should keep trust on the forces. Indian soldiers suc- cessfully executed operation against terrorists on Pakistani soil after (Uri) attack and gave a strong message to the world that if needed, Indian soldiers can hit terrorists on their soil," Singh said. The honour of the country would not be harmed under any circumstances, the Minister said. "We have destroyed their posts after entering their territo- ry and are proud of our soldiers and Army and have immense faith in them," Singh said. He was addressing a public gathering after unveiling a stat- ue of Mewar ruler Rana Pratap in Pali district of Rajasthan. Singh said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has emerged as a strong nation. Stating that Maharana Pratap did not get his due place in his- tory, Singh urged historians to re-evaulate the contribution of the Rajput warrior. "I am surprised that histori- ans called Akbar as great but not Pratap. What shortcoming did they notice in Pratap that he was not referred to as 'the Great'," the Minister said. Singh said the Mewar ruler was a true statesman. He scarified his throne and leisure and fought for self respect, presenting an exempla- ry example of valour, he said. "I have no objection to Akbar being referred so but I would appeal to historians that a correct assessment of Pratap should be there in the history of the country,” Singh said. (PTI) NEW DELHI, May 9: The rural electrification pro- gramme is proceeding swiftly, with over 13,000 villages elec- trified out of a total of 18,452 and is on track for completion within the targeted 1000 days, a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here was told today. The meeting was also told that the total renewable genera- tion capacity has crossed 57 GigaWatts, with an increase of 24.5 per cent being registered in the last fiscal year. The figures were presented when the Prime Minister reviewed progress of key infra- structure sectors including petroleum and natural gas, power, renewable energy and housing. The meeting, which came soon after the review of con- nectivity-related infrastructure sectors in the last week of April, lasted for about three hours, and was attended by top officials from PMO, NITI Aayog and all infrastructure Ministries of the Government of India, said a PMO state- ment. In course of the presentation made by CEO NITI Aayog, it was noted that remarkable progress has been made in sev- eral sectors, including genera- tion of renewable energy, affordable and rural housing, LED bulbs etc, the statement said. The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has benefited 1.98 crore below poverty line (BPL) households so far and the contri- bution of gas to the primary energy mix has risen to 8 per cent, it said. Eighty one cities are being covered under City Gas Distribution networks. The Prime Minister called for greater emphasis on ethanol blending, and evolu- tion of mechanisms so that farmers can benefit the most from this process, the state- ment said. He said that setting up of 2nd generation bio-ethanol refineries should be expedited. Regarding electrification, the meeting was told that over 22 lakh rural BPL households were electrified in 2016-17, and over 40 crore LED bulbs were distributed in the same period. The total inter-regional transmission capacity has been significantly enhanced, with 41 GigaWatts transmission capaci- ty being added from May 2014 to April 2017. The capacity addition in solar energy in financial year- 17 was the highest-ever, at 81 per cent, the statement said. Solar and wind tariffs have now achieved grid parity, with rates now well below Rs 4 per Kilowatt-Hour. The Prime Minister called for establishment of some model solar cities, where the power requirement would be fulfilled solely by solar energy, the statement said. A similar effort can be made to make certain localities kerosene-free, he told the meet- ing. Modi emphasized that manufacturing of solar equip- ment should be given priority, to drive employment genera- tion, and derive maximum benefit from the renewable energy drive. Under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, a remarkable progress has been achieved in rural areas, the statement said. IT and space-based applica- tions are being extensively used to monitor progress of the scheme. Over 32 lakh houses have been completed in rural areas in FY17. The Prime Minister enquired about the training and skills being given to rural masons, who were involved with this scheme. Seeking a consolidated approach to various schemes, such as electrification, IT net- works and housing, the Prime Minister called for a focused approach on the 100 worst per- forming districts in each case, the statement said. He directed that future reviews should focus on prob- lems at the district-level, so that the progress of poorly perform- ing districts can be better moni- tored.
