JAIPUR, May 9:
The countrymen should trustthe armed forces which haveshown their capability by cary-ing out the surgical strikeagainst terrorists, Union HomeMinister Rajnath Singh saidtoday.
Speaking in the backdrop ofthe recent killing of Indian sol-diers along the Line of Control,the Minister asserted that thenation's honour would not beallowed to be harmed under anycircumstances.
"People should keep trust onthe forces. Indian soldiers suc-cessfully executed operationagainst terrorists on Pakistanisoil after (Uri) attack and gave astrong message to the world thatif needed, Indian soldiers can hitterrorists on their soil," Singhsaid.
The honour of the countrywould not be harmed under anycircumstances, the Ministersaid.
"We have destroyed theirposts after entering their territo-ry and are proud of our soldiersand Army and have immensefaith in them," Singh said.
He was addressing a publicgathering after unveiling a stat-ue of Mewar ruler Rana Pratapin Pali district of Rajasthan.
Singh said that under theleadership of Prime MinisterNarendra Modi, India has
emerged as a strong nation.Stating that Maharana Pratap
did not get his due place in his-tory, Singh urged historians tore-evaulate the contribution ofthe Rajput warrior.
"I am surprised that histori-ans called Akbar as great but notPratap. What shortcoming didthey notice in Pratap that he wasnot referred to as 'the Great',"the Minister said.
Singh said the Mewar rulerwas a true statesman.
He scarified his throne andleisure and fought for selfrespect, presenting an exempla-ry example of valour, he said.
"I have no objection toAkbar being referred so but Iwould appeal to historians that acorrect assessment of Pratapshould be there in the history ofthe country,” Singh said. (PTI)
NEW DELHI, May 9:
The rural electrification pro-gramme is proceeding swiftly,with over 13,000 villages elec-trified out of a total of 18,452and is on track for completionwithin the targeted 1000 days, ameeting chaired by PrimeMinister Narendra Modi herewas told today.
The meeting was also toldthat the total renewable genera-tion capacity has crossed 57GigaWatts, with an increase of24.5 per cent being registered inthe last fiscal year.
The figures were presentedwhen the Prime Ministerreviewed progress of key infra-structure sectors includingpetroleum and natural gas,power, renewable energy andhousing.
The meeting, which camesoon after the review of con-nectivity-related infrastructuresectors in the last week ofApril, lasted for about threehours, and was attended by topofficials from PMO, NITIAayog and all infrastructureMinistries of the Governmentof India, said a PMO state-ment.
In course of the presentationmade by CEO NITI Aayog, itwas noted that remarkableprogress has been made in sev-eral sectors, including genera-tion of renewable energy,affordable and rural housing,LED bulbs etc, the statementsaid.
The Pradhan Mantri UjjwalaYojana has benefited 1.98 crorebelow poverty line (BPL)households so far and the contri-bution of gas to the primary
energy mix has risen to 8 percent, it said.
Eighty one cities are beingcovered under City GasDistribution networks.
The Prime Minister calledfor greater emphasis onethanol blending, and evolu-tion of mechanisms so thatfarmers can benefit the mostfrom this process, the state-ment said.
He said that setting up of2nd generation bio-ethanolrefineries should be expedited.
Regarding electrification,the meeting was told that over22 lakh rural BPL householdswere electrified in 2016-17,and over 40 crore LED bulbswere distributed in the sameperiod.
The total inter-regionaltransmission capacity has beensignificantly enhanced, with 41GigaWatts transmission capaci-ty being added from May 2014to April 2017.
The capacity addition insolar energy in financial year-17 was the highest-ever, at 81per cent, the statement said.
Solar and wind tariffs havenow achieved grid parity, withrates now well below Rs 4 perKilowatt-Hour.
The Prime Minister calledfor establishment of somemodel solar cities, where thepower requirement would befulfilled solely by solar energy,the statement said.
A similar effort can be madeto make certain localitieskerosene-free, he told the meet-ing.
Modi emphasized thatmanufacturing of solar equip-
ment should be given priority,to drive employment genera-tion, and derive maximumbenefit from the renewableenergy drive.
Under Pradhan MantriAwaas Yojana, a remarkableprogress has been achieved inrural areas, the statement said.
IT and space-based applica-tions are being extensively usedto monitor progress of thescheme.
Over 32 lakh houses havebeen completed in rural areas inFY17.
The Prime Minister enquiredabout the training and skillsbeing given to rural masons,who were involved with thisscheme.
Seeking a consolidatedapproach to various schemes,such as electrification, IT net-works and housing, the PrimeMinister called for a focusedapproach on the 100 worst per-forming districts in each case,the statement said.
He directed that futurereviews should focus on prob-lems at the district-level, so thatthe progress of poorly perform-ing districts can be better moni-tored. (PTI)
