Congratulations to the Concert Band and Symphonic Band members. At their festival at North Thurston
High School on Wednesday, both groups earned “Superior” ratings, which are the highest marks you can
receive. They represented Black Hills High School well and received positive feedback from three outstanding
judges. Way to go Wolves!

Attention student drivers: Tickets/fines will be issued to all vehicles without a current 2018/19
permit or improperly parked. Tickets/ fines are $20 per ticket. Please avoid expensive fines by purchasing a
current parking permit from the ASB office in the commons. Please also make sure that you are parked in an
authorized area, occupying only 1 parking stall, and with all wheels on the ground within that stall. Please see
Jamie if you have any questions.
Attention regarding parking lot access for students:
Student vehicles and parking lots are off limits during the school day. Emergency access to your vehicle
may be granted by obtaining a note from administration. Students may not loiter inside of vehicles or in the
parking lots at any time. Students that loiter or choose to be in the parking areas or vehicles without
permission will receive progressive consequences.

U.S. Service Academy Information Night: Meet Academy Field Representatives from West Point, Air
Force Academy, Naval Academy, Merchant Marine and Coast Guard Academies.
This is an important event to attend if you are interested in one of the listed academies. This is an extensive
application process. The more information you have beforehand may lead to a better application.
Congressman Denny Heck hosts this event. There are two different nights for you to choose:

Running Start Information Before enrolling in the Running Start Program, we want to make sure it’s going to be a good fit for the
student. An in-person information session is required prior to starting class, and is your opportunity to
learn about the requirements and structure directly from a SPSCC Running Start Advisor. Parents,
guardians, and supporters are welcome and encouraged to attend and ask questions. Come early enough to
find parking and save your seat, no pre-registration required. Students, remember to sign-in!
Sessions will run from January through the end of the school year on both campuses. Check

U.S. Service Academy Information Night hosted by Congressman Denny Heck

This informational event is recommended for all interested high school and middle school students residing in
Washington State’s 10th Congressional District. Representatives from West Point,

Senior Updates:
Senior Presentations are March 27th and 28th. These are the only two days to complete this graduation
requirement. Please be thinking about an advocate to sit on your panel. They must be 21 yrs or older and NOT a
relative. BHHS Teachers are not available to do this, as they are panel leaders. Advocate forms will be available
when you sign up.
College deadlines are fast approaching. Know what you need to have done and get it done in a timely fashion. If
you wait until the last minute, you may miss an opportunity. If you are planning on attend a 2 yr college, please

apply as soon as possible, One online application can be sent to multiple colleges. You need to apply for access to
their Foundation scholarships.
Seniors, if you are thinking about attending a four-year college or university, now is the time to take the SAT
or ACT if you haven’t done so. You will register for these tests on their website. Please read all the testing
information carefully. You will need to upload a photo for your admission ticket.

Test and registration dates can be found in the Career Center or on the individual testing websites. Please make
sure to fill out which colleges you want your scores sent to. You get the first 4 free. If you wait and send scores
after you have received them, there will be a $12/college fee. If you are on the Free/Reduced Lunch Program, see
me for a test waiver before you sign up.
Juniors, please consider taking one of these tests this coming spring.

TwinStar Foundation is awarding 15 college scholarships to graduating seniors. You must be a member in good

Olympia Masonic Lodge March 31st Deadline
The Freemasons of Olympia Lodge #1 will award one $1,000 scholarship and five $500 scholarships to seniors
graduating from Olympia, Tumwater, and North Thurston School District high schools. Application includes
transcript, letter of reference, and personal statement. Application is available on Scholarship Bulletin.
WIAA Smart Choices College Scholarship
April 1st Deadline
Scholarship which will recognize one female and one male high school student for their achievements in
athletics/activities, the community, and the classroom with $5,000 college scholarships to the college or
university of their choice. Eligibility requirements include a minimum GPA of 3.2, consume dairy
products, plan on attending a 4yr college, and participate in a WIAA sanctioned high school sport or activity

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and intend to pursue studies leading to a career in the building industry,

Tumwater Education Future Teacher Scholarship
April 12th Deadline
This scholarship is available to a graduating Tumwater School District student pursuing post secondary
education leading to public school teacher certification. Essay and personal references are required. This is
an easy application to complete. All completed applications need to be turned into the Career Center by the
posted deadline. Applications are available here.
Michael T Simmons PTO Alumni Scholarship
April 19th Deadline
This opportunity is for graduating seniors who: attend a TSD high school, attended MTS for a minimum of 4
years and have volunteered at MTS-PTO events over the course of high school. Letters of reference on
community service, academics and high school transcripts must to be included with application. Applications
must be RECEIVED by MTS-PTO by the 4/19 deadline. Application is available on the Scholarship Bulletin.

2.5 hr shifts; Must love working with people, not timid around senior citizens and ready to work hard.

City of Tumwater Intern Program:
The idea behind the internship is to provide a student that has not previous work experience the opportunity
to work after school and be exposed to an office environment. The schedule would be from 2:30 or 3:00 pm
until 5:00pm Monday through Friday. The student needs to be at least 16 years of age. The position would
work in a different department each afternoon and help with office support type tasks (filing, typing
etc.). Good attendance at BHHS and basic Microsoft Office skills are required. If you are interested, please
see Mrs. Jones in the Career Center for more information.
There is a “Job Board” in the Career Center. There are several posted jobs for you to checkout.
Always dress nice and bring your resume for an onsite interview.
Summer Job
Ecology Youth Corp (EYC) road crew. Application opens on Feb 1st and closes on April 12th.
This position is for 14-17 yr old students. It’s a 15 day work session, Monday -Thursday, 7AM-3PM.
This is an online application. For more information and application, go to: www.ecology.es.gov/eyc and click on
“Southwest Region”. You must send in your two teacher references at the time you apply.
To be hired by EYC, you must:
Be 14-17 years old on the first day of employment. Proof of age is required.
Be eligible to work in the United States.
Have a Social Security card and photo identification.
Submit one complete application and two teacher references by the required deadline.
Certify you are able to meet the conditions and requirements of the job (see below).
Be available to work every day the entire session with no unexcused absences.
Camp or a family vacation is not an acceptable excuse.
**Community Service**
30 hours of documented community service with a non-profit organization is a graduation requirement. A list of
organizations can be found on our website under the Academics tab along with the form. Community service
activities in a governmental, non-profit, or bona fide charitable organization are appropriate.
Egg Dash needs volunteers!
KXXO MIXX 96.1 is looking for volunteers to help stuff eggs with goodies.
Days for stuffing eggs would be Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays after school, primarily 2:30-5pm.
March 25th, 27th, or 29th and April 1st, 3rd, 5th, 8th, 12th, 15th and 17th.
Also needed are volunteers to help with the Egg Dash itself on April 20th from 8am-1pm.
The students would come to our station located in Olympia and in return for stuffing eggs, we would provide
pizza and beverages!

Attention students who are or will be 18 in the near future: Camp Hope is a program for children and
teens, ages 7-17, who have witnessed domestic violence and experienced trauma.
This is a camping/mentoring program that is life changing for all involved. The organization is looking for
energetic, outgoing, patient and committed volunteer camp counselors.
You must be 18-24 to volunteer.

The City of Tumwater has several opportunities for you to volunteer your time. This can be a one-time

City of Tumwater Earth Day Work Party
April 20, 10am-1pm, Tumwater Historical Park
This annual event is a great opportunity to give back to our community AND earn some $$ for our school. The
Tumwater school with the most participants will be awarded $500. Pre-registration is required. T-shirts will be
provided to those who get their registrations form in early. Registrations forms are also available in the Career
Center. Return your completed form to Mrs. Jones in the Career Center or email it to the address provided on the
form.
Tumwater Middle School is in need of volunteers after school to help teachers with classroom
preparations. You will need to complete the TSD Volunteer form. For more information, email

YMCA is looking for students to become a part of their volunteer family helping elementary school kids
with homework and being a part of the activities after homework time at the Y Briggs location. There is a

Boys and Girls Club is in need of tutors throughout the school year. See Mrs. Jones for more
information.
Gwinwood Camp and Conference Center is looking for volunteers to help with the construct of a
