CARMEN SILVA-CORVALAN UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WEDNESDAY, APRIL 12 RAWL 2082, 1:30 PM Being Bilingual: A Profile of the First Six Years Dr. Carmen Silva-Corvalán is a Professor Emerita of Spanish and Portuguese Linguistics at the University of Southern California. Her research program addresses variationist approaches to Spanish morphosyntax in bilingual first language acquisition, sociolinguistics, language loss, and in language contact and change. She has published five books and over 100 articles and book chapters. Her talk will address issues relative to intergenerational change, crosslinguistic influence, language dominance, language attitudes, and patterns of language use and exposure in simultaneous bilingual acquisition. Specifically, Dr. Silva-Corvalán will discuss longitudinal data on the development of clitics, overt/null subject pronoun alternation and tense and aspect morphology. A reception will follow at the Latino Cultural Center at 3:00 PM.
