Hanan has proved to be an outstanding student who has achieved the award of Overall DUX for 2021. Hanan has consistently achieved excellence throughout her high school career at Willyama High School. She is an extremely hard working student who has performed extremely well across all subjects. Hanan’s efforts and dedication to her studies have placed her in first position for Mathematics Advanced, Biology and Chemistry. The effort and dedication that Hanan has shown towards her studies during what has proved to be a challenging HSC year have been remarkable. AURORA
Aurora College (The Virtual Secondary School) is a unique secondary option for students in government schools in NSW. It is the only selective high school
option available to students living in Broken Hill. Students stay connected locally while developing their passion for subjects and courses that link to their career
plans and broaden their post school options.
Students connect with their peers and their teachers through lessons delivered virtually, through technology and personally during residential schools held twice each year. Aurora College provides a personalised experience and has a strong

The Ampol Best All Rounder Award is presented to a Higher School Certificate student in recognition of their contribution to Willyama High School in the areas of academic, attitude, personal conduct, leadership, service and sport during their senior years. The Ampol Best All Rounder Award is a national accolade, which makes the achievement all the more noteworthy. For more than 30 years, it has earned a reputation for being one of Australia’s most iconic secondary education awards programs and is presented in more than 2,000 schools across the nation.

THE UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE PRINCIPAL’S SCHOLARSHIP
These scholarships are available to students of outstanding academic merit who have made a significant contribution to their school and to the wider community. The scholarships provide $5,000 to assist with education costs in the first year of the student’s study at the University of Adelaide. GREG MATE COMMITMENT TO MATHEMATICS AWARD
The “Greg Mate Commitment to Mathematics Award” is awarded to a student in Year 12 who possesses a passion for Mathematics along with a desire and dedication to improve. These were traits that Mr Mate valued most in Mathematics education during his time at Willyama High School. Mr Mate taught at Willyama for almost 10 years, and was extremely passionate about education in Broken Hill. He appreciated and acknowledged the beauty in Mathematics, and always tried to convey this to his students. He always went above and beyond for his students and is sorely missed at Willyama High School. This award has been in place since 2013 when Mr Mate unfortunately passed away due to a short illness. Greg’s family hope that his legacy lives on in Broken Hill and are proud to sponsor this annual award in his name. This year’s winner is:

Hanan has shown a significant interest in Mathematics and how it applies to the world around her. She has been a dedicated Advanced and Extension 1 Mathematics student who always questions how things work and where it applies to her life. Her passion for learning has seen her achieve pleasing results in her Mathematics courses and it is for this reason that Hanan is a worthy recipient of the Greg Mate Commitment to Mathematics Award.

Throughout 2021 Mason has shown outstanding talent and enthusiasm in the sporting arena. He was Willyama High School’s 16 Years Boys Athletics and Cross Country Age Champion. Mason has represented Willyama High School at West Darling Cross Country and also represented Willyama High School in Soccer. In 2021 Mason is a recipient of an All Rounder School Sports Award and was the Junior Sporting House Captain for Hexham. Mason’s sporting ability and willingness to always give one hundred percent, make him a deserving winner of the 2021 Sportsman of the Year.

Throughout 2021 Kalyce has shown herself to be a highly motivated performer and talented athlete. She has been a keen participant and positive role model for all students. Kalyce was Willyama High School’s 17+ Years Girls Swimming Age Champion and has represented Willyama High School at West Darling Swimming where she was awarded West Darling 17+ Years Girls Swimming Age Champion. Kalyce then represented NSW Combined High Schools and was a State Swimming Representative. Kalyce is a recipient of an All Rounder School Sports Award, a Meritorious Sports Award for Swimming and was the Senior Sporting House Captain for Yancowinna during 2021. She is also a recipient of the Australian Change-Maker Award and the NSW Combined High Schools Sports Association State Blue. Kalyce’s outstanding performances and dedication to school sport has made her a deserving winner of the 2021 Sportswoman of the Year Award.

Madison is a cheerful, mature and diligent student who is always willing to volunteer her time to assist her peers. She has demonstrated an outstanding level of understanding in Mathematics and History while developing a strong ability to identify and explain text types in English. In Mandatory Technology she has displayed a talent for coding using the Python programming language and she is developing her ability to construct grammatically correct Japanese sentences. Madison developed her creative strengths by demonstrating her ability to perform and analyse music while constructing complex designs using paint and clay in Visual Arts. Her quick grasp of scientific concepts is commendable, and she is able to conduct valid first-hand investigations with accuracy. She has developed a high level of understanding of all concepts throughout PDHPE also. Madison is a deserving recipient of the 2021 Trumper- Marsh Open Award.

She frequently seeks assistance when it is needed, and this year displayed enthusiasm both in the classroom and while engaging with home learning. Savannah has demonstrated a growing strength in the use of language conventions in English and has built upon her fluency with fundamental mathematical operations. Her skills in scientific inquiry have developed with confidence. She has consistently applied herself excellently to all her subjects and always follows the school values. Savannah is a worthy recipient of the 2021 Trumper-Marsh Most Improved Award.
