You’ll hear how the oceans affect our weather patterns, find out how run-off affects our favourite swimming spots, view and touch living marine species and craft your favourite sea animals. Great ‘ocean’ prizes to WIN! Light refreshments provided. Sharks occur in all habitats around the Australian coast line and are mostly found on the continental shelf. With many Australians concerned about the risk of shark attacks, marine biologist, Dr Alexandra Campbell will share current research and her expert insights, helping our community be more informed about these often feared fish in our oceans and estuaries. Bushcare is about groups of volunteers working to restore the natural environment in urban and coastal areas across Australia. Take this opportunity to learn from our experts about the unique plant species that grow along the sand dunes at Malabar Beach. Find out how to monitor the local bush fauna, control weeds and collect seeds for propagation at the Community Nursery. Get ready to get wet (and smelly!) with marine biologist Vanessa Guillermo. Under the Sea showcases the incredible animals that live under the waves and on our shores. We’ll investigate habitats and learn how sea animals adapt to the changing environment. Children will be holding and touching a large range of marine animals, specimen samples and a variety of marine artefacts and shells.

Backyard BugsTime: 11am – 12pmCost: $5 per personAge: 5yrs and above

Focusing in on the world of mini beasts, we delve into the secret lives of our often well camoufl aged backyard bugs. We’ll fi nd out their amazing abilities and the role they play in the environment. The show is totally interactive, allowing children to hold and touch many different bugs in a safe and exciting way. So get ready for a lot of laughing and screaming!
