We were all really relieved last week that the government didn’t escalate us to alert level 3 and that we can continue school as per normal (mostly normal). Thank you everyone for being so flexible and understanding with our Level 2 adults at the gate procedure, your cooperation makes everything that much easier and manageable. Now, as part of the restrictions of Level 2 we have shut our school drinking fountains. We do, therefore, need every one of our students to bring a water bottle to school so they can drink and stay hydrated throughout the day. Water is so important for learning so please make sure your children have a water bottle for school every day. Last thing from me and it’s a biggie. At this point in time we are continuing to plan for our ‘Taste Of The World’ later this term but...should we continue to be in Level 2 beyond the 26th August announcement then it is highly likely that we will have to cancel this. We desperately hope that this will not be the case but we did need to let you all know that cancellation is a potentiality. Ka kite whānau :-) Mr. Johnson ..CENTRAL SCHOOL - Mobile App.. Whakatauki (Māori proverb) Mauria te pono - Believe in yourself.

___ Mr. Johnson’s Korero___ Kia ora koutou, hello to everyone in our community. Johnson

ANABELLE DOES HER BIT FOR CANCER Chop. Snip. Cut. Down fell Anabelle’s red locks.

Surrounded by her family and classmates,

Anabelle in Room 11 showed how big her heart

is by making the decision to donate her hair to someone in need. After 28 months of growing, the time

had come to chop off her hair. Anabelle’s mum measured to check it was over 35cm and then the

cutting began. Mr J escaped the same treatment, so Katie stepped in and let Anabelle give her a cut.

Any donations would be greatly received. Your child can take any money to the school office, with the

funds going to the Child Cancer Foundation and Cancer Society.

We think Anabelle showed great Central PRIDE.

YEAR 6 LEADERS After a stop start year our Year 6 leaders have been chosen. The high calibre of students to choose

from made the final decisions very difficult. Congratulations to Finn, Riley, Zavier, Maya, Zaria,

Corbin, Camdyn, Porter, Alaina and Georgie. You all shine with Central PRIDE.

…. A HUGE CENTRAL SCHOOL

...Welcome to our new tamariki ….

Fergus, Luca, Charli-Rae We know you will love our wonderful school - Mr. J

…..Road Safety Around Our Children & School…..

Please remember to follow NZ road rules when dropping and picking your children up

from school. The Pendarves St Kiss n Drop is for 5 year olds only. If you are not using this Kiss n Drop we kindly ask for you to access school from Lemon St or Gover St to reduce congestion. We are getting daily complaints from the public about double parking on Pendarves St. Double parking is when there is already a car in the car park and another car stops alongside the parked car. This is illegal, blocks the road for other users and is dangerous. Staff will be closely monitoring this in the coming weeks and we will be instructing drivers to move along in accordance with the law. Do not be offended if you are told to drive on. We have the support of the NZ Police, who have been patrolling around our school a lot recently, and they are concerned with the driving behaviour they have witnessed. Your cooperation is always required so help us be as safe for the children as possible.

BOOK FAIR A very big THANK YOU to all the families who came and supported our Book Fair this year!

Our Central School community bought over $5000 worth of books which earns us a very tidy profit as a percentage of the total sales. The money raised will go towards stocking our library with a range of books to keep our tamariki reading all year long. An extra special thank you to those families who generously donated books to our library. Keep an eye out for a sticker in the front of your donated book. We hope you loved the transformed hall and the exciting range of books. We’re already looking forward to next year!

MEDICATION If your child requires medication to be stored at school such as an asthma inhaler or antihistamines, please bring the correct, unexpired medication labelled with your child’s name to the office and ensure the correct paperwork has been filled out and filed with Lynne.

‘TASTE OF THE WORLD’ This term each team is inquiring into different continents. At the end of the term we will celebrate and share our learning with friends and family. Children will have the opportunity to taste food from around the world. Thursday September 24 6.00 pm - Arts performance - YMCA Cost: $5.00 per family More information will come from your childrens’ teachers as the term goes

on. We will inform you when tickets are available.

FOR NEW PARENTS and a reminder for all.

CALENDAR ART WORK

Every year, in Term 3, school pupils create some art pieces that can be made into calendars, cards

and diaries. Parents are then invited to view the art works and make an order to buy their child’s

art as a calendar, card or diary. The order takes several weeks to be completed. This is a chance

for families to have Christmas gifts, perhaps for grandparents. It is also a successful fundraiser

whereby any profit made goes towards a school project.

I will keep you up to date regarding orders, prices and deliveries

*Orders must be paid for at the OFFICE by Eftpos or cash. This will NOT go on Kindo

If you have any questions please ask me.

Regards

drinks please) Parents will be welcome to take their children home at the end of all the running. We do encourage people to stay and watch all races so that we have plenty of spectators. Please let your classroom teacher know what your intentions are. Whānau will be able to watch from the grandstand with running starting and finishing in front of there. The children will run around the inner field of the racecourse so should be visible for much of the race. Children will sit in their age groups. Each race will begin and end in front of the grandstand. Parents are asked to sit in the grandstand, with great viewing. As our race times can only be approximate, we suggest you arrive up to 15 mins before the stated start time.

SPORTS NEWS

Hockey Central Storm played their third game of the season on Saturday losing to Bell Block. With no subs this week the team had to dig deep and work hard. Jae showed great determination on attack. Shelby was player of the day for excellent defending, clearing the ball many times and saving goals. The team has been showing great improvement this season, with many first-time players displaying positive attitudes. Experienced players in the team have been showing great leadership. Well done Central Storm’s!

*Coaches or managers please feel free to send us an update of any team news that we can share in our newsletters.

CRICKET: registrations are on KINDO. Please note just because you have registered this does not guarantee that your child will be placed in a team. Teams have limited numbers and the time of registration will be taken into consideration if need be. Children may be given the opportunity to be shifted into a lower division if there is not space available in the selected division. At this stage, we have too many for one team in Division One and not enough for two teams. It would be great if we could get some more players so that we can enter 2 Division 1 teams. If not, teams will be made up taking into account the time of registration and playing experience.

COVID-19 Sports update: Please keep checking your emails and looking on websites as sport is frequently being updated. At the time of writing this, hockey and netball will go ahead but unfortunately not basketball.

George’s Mud Kitchen

Well done to George Govier from Room 7 for completing his project of making a MudKitchen this term. George painted, used a drill, a hammer and a saw while constructing the kitchen and did a fantastic job. It is now out in the sandpit area for all of the students to enjoy playing during break and lunchtimes. Great work and thank you George!

CALLING ALL OLD MOBILE PHONES It would be great if you could have one final rummage before the end of term for any unwanted mobile phones you may have at home. It is estimated that each year up to three million phones become obsolete in NZ, of those only 2% are recycled. Phones collected help our School gain valuable rewards and the environment benefits as well keeping our landfills free of mobile phones and their array of hazardous toxic substances. Please drop any unwanted mobile phones you may have collected in the collection box in the reception area at school.
