To commemorate black history, during the month of February, I will be honoring the African Americanstaff members of Wedgwood Middle School and highlighting DFW black history facts. There is somuch wisdom and history within our family that deserves recognition. It is my hope that you learnmore about your colleagues and discover little known facts about DFW black history.

Lolita Young (Brenegan), a native Texan, born in Dallas at ParklandHospital June 22, 1964, attended the University of North Texas majoringin Rehabilitation Studies. Her initial aspiration was to become apsychologist. Mrs. Brenegan's most signicant moment in Black Historywas the excitement and fascination she felt watching Diana Ross andThe Supremes perform on the Ed Sullivan Show. It was one of the rsttimes she remembered seeing women of color exerting condence in apublic arena. As a little girl in that moment, she felt anything waspossible. The quote that she lives by is: “This above all: to thine own self be true,And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false toany man.” ― William Shakespeare, Hamlet.

Steven Camps was born in Chicago, Illinois. He is a graduate of theUniversity of Mary Hardin Baylor and Grand Canyon University. Hismost memorable moment in black history is the election of PresidentBarack Obama. The quote that he lives by is I Can Do All Things Through Christ WhoStrengthens Me. (Philippians 4:13)

Tim Hill was born in Fort Worth, but raised in Omaha, Nebraska. Hereceived his undergraduate degree in Radio/TV from Kansas StateUniversity and earned two Master's degrees in Human Services andClinical Counseling from Bellevue University. He is currently workingon his doctorate at Tarleton State University and hope to graduatenext December. His biggest accomplishment in life is probably thesuccess of his students. It makes him feel great when a kid that youinvested in comes back and tells you that they changed for thebetter or going to college because of the love and effort that youpoured into them.Mr. Hill's most signicant moment in black history is theassassination of MLK. Simply because of the impact that he made inhis 14 years of activism; imagine if you gave him a lifetime to changesocial constructs and blur racial barriers. The quote that he lives by: "The toes you step on today, could beconnected to butt that you'll have to kiss tomorrow." -Slick Rick AND"We all make choices; but in the end it is our choices that make us" -Andrew Ryan (Bioshock)
