Elizabeth Bay House is one of Sydney’s best- kept secrets, situated high above Elizabeth Bay with majestic views across Sydney Harbour and beyond. Built by architect John Verge, the house was occupied by Colonial Secretary Alexander Macleay and his family from 1839 to 1845, and was known as ‘the finest house in the colony’. With its impressive colonial fcade and elegant furnishings, it is perfectly suited for smaller, intimate wedding ceremonies and receptions, and increasingly popular for cocktail-style wedding receptions. WEDDING CEREMONY A highlight of Elizabeth Bay House is the saloon which features a majestic domed ceiling and sweeping staircase, and accommodates up to 100 guests standing for a wedding ceremony. With a string quartet playing on the upper level, it provides a breathtaking entrance for a bride on her wedding day. The sandstone verandah surrounding the house allows your guests to enjoy the harbour views and soak up the ambience of this special venue. The service of red wine is limited due to the conservation requirements of the original flooring, and can only be served while guests are seated for banquet events.
