    on the cover

I gain a lot of my inspiration from watching our clients interact. We love capturing the emotion that is shared between every couple. We approach wedding days in an organized, but calm manner. We want our clients to enjoy their day, and not feel as though their day is rushed and running behind. We want them to be in the moment so that we can capture memories that will last them a lifetime. My husband Jeremy and I have been shooting weddings together for over 15 years. We complement each other in personality and shooting techniques to provide

our clients with documentation that they will be able to cherish for years to come.

WeddingDay is a fully integrated marketing program designed to reach local engaged couples planning their wedding, utilizing a number of tools such as magazines, bridal shows, website, e-marketing services, direct marketing, sponsorships and contests.

WeddingDay print edition is a quarterly publication of Life Events Media, a subsidiary of Monkeyhouse Marketing & Design LLC. WeddingDay is distributed throughout Central Indiana at targeted locations frequented by this audience.

Any and all materials published in WeddingDay are the sole property of said publication, without exclusion. Editorial and or advertising content, including all design, copy, photography, illustrations and artwork shall not be reproduced in any manner without written consent of WeddingDay.

The publisher makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of the information published but cannot be held liable for any consequences arising from omissions or errors. Any claims or opinions expressed by the writers and advertisers are not necessarily the opinions of WeddingDay.

Readers interested in having their wedding considered for publication in WeddingDay may submit a brief paragraph about the wedding to: WeddingDay Magazine, 742 S. Eddy St., South Bend, IN 46615, or e-mail to [email protected].

Please note that due to volume we are unable to respond to all submitted requests.

The planning and creation of a website is not unlike the preparations necessary to executive a wedding. You brainstorm, you talk about different ideas, you meet with experts, you put together a timeline, you make decisions, you change your mind, and finally, the big day arrives!

WeddingDay proudly went live with its new website earlier this summer and the process was a very positive, and sometimes challenging, one. We knew our product needed to inspire couples and at the same time connect them with the high-quality wedding professionals in the area. We also wanted it to be extremely easy to navigate (weve all been to sites that arent).

    Just a few features:

You can create your own profile to customize your wedding vision by saving inspiring images and information found on the site.

Youll be able to interact directly with vendors, other brides and experts in the industry, creating a simpler, more personal and enjoyable wedding planning experience.

Our new blog is full of the latest trends in gowns, etiquette, color schemes and budgets. Our writers have been working hard to create content that is relevant and informative. A recent blog looked at different dessert table ideas, for example.

Weve heard a few brides talk about what they would have done differently after the wedding is over. Unlike brides, we have the opportunity to keep working on the website to make sure it meets your needs. We take this responsibility seriously and strive to represent all couples in Indiana and Southwest Michigan.

Enjoy our latest issue and see you online.

    Congratulations on your engagement!

THE DOS AND DO NOTS OF

    WEDDING INVITATIONS

You only get to make one first impression. That sentiment rings true in so many facets of our lives, but its especially applicable to your wedding. Despite the intention that your wedding is about two people in love, you also designed it to make a statement. Your wedding invitations are among the first details revealed to your guests and consequently, it gives guests their first impression of what your wedding will be like. At the same time, your invite serves as a platform for information and the itinerary for guests: the date, the location, the dress code, the menu and other pertinent details.

Typically hiring a designer to create your invitations eliminates the stress and fear of making mistakes. But we are all about the D.I.Y. movement here at WeddingDay, so we understand that creating your own invitations is a little friendlier on the pocket. We suggest having more than one person proof your invitations before you send them out. Sometimes you stare at something so long, you glaze over what could be a misspelling or inaccurate information.

And then there is the matter of etiquette. Many of the traditional etiquette rules have been disregarded and are now considered outdated, but when it comes to invites, people can still become easily offended.

  • Do include a reception card with appropriate information if its being held in a location separate from the ceremony. If both events are in the same place, a reception card is not necessary. Make mention of the reception on your invite like Dinner and Dancing to Follow or Reception to Follow.

Do let guests know if a complete dinner will not be served during the reception. If you are having appetizers, or a dessert-themed reception, or a light meal, your guests need to know that in advance so they can prepare accordingly.

Do choose an invitation design that reflects the theme of your wedding. Think of it as the branding element of your wedding. If you are having an outdoor, laid-back wedding, it would be confusing to send out an elegant black and white formal invitation. Remember, the invite gives guests their first impression or idea of what to expect at your wedding. The styles should match.

Do send out the invitation at least six to eight weeks in advance of your wedding. Of course, you should give more time if you are planning a destination wedding or inviting out-of-state guests.

Do include your deceased parents name on the invitation if you so wish. Just do not make it sound like the invite is coming from your deceased father/mother. For example, do not say Mr. John Smith and Mrs. Jane Smith request your presence... Instead, make the invitation sound like its coming from you, like this: Together with their families, Jenna Smith, daughter of John Smith and the late Jane Smith...

Do list your parents names or the names of people helping to pay the wedding bill on the wedding invitation. If you and your significant other are hosting, its perfectly acceptable to say Together with their parents, Jenna and Wade Smith request... or Jenna and Wade Smith, together with their parents, request... or you can leave mention of parents out altogether. There are a number of ways this can be worded. Find the wording that best fits your comfort level.

Do not include your registry information on your wedding invites. It gives off the impression that you are asking for gifts. Instead, include that information on your wedding website and encourage close friends and family to spread the word.

Do not write no kids on your invites. Instead, specify that your wedding is an adults reception or specifically list the names of the people who are invited. If people do RSVP with their childrens names, it is up to you to call and explain that kids are not invited.

Do write guests names in full, using Mr. and Mrs. for married couples, Doctor for a doctor (whomever is the doctor should be listed first), Ms. for an unmarried woman over the age of 21, and Miss for an unmarried woman under the age of 21. For unmarried couples living together, address their names on separate lines.

Do spell out words in the address like Avenue or Street on the envelope. Example: North Minnesota Avenue, not Minnesota Ave. N. and Saint Paul, Minnesota, not St. Paul, MN. Also, spell out dates: Friday, the ninth of October, two thousand fifteen not Friday, October 9, 2015.

    THE PROPOSAL

Matt told Jenny he had a gift card to St. Elmos in downtown Indianapolis and they enjoyed a romantic, delicious dinner. When the bill came, she realized that there was no gift card. Matt had been busy with work recently so I assumed he was just trying to do something nice and definitely didnt think he was proposing! says Jenny. After dinner, Matt suggested a carriage ride around the downtown as Jenny has always wanted to do that. On their way back to the car, they passed a fountain and Jenny stopped mid-sentence when Matt dropped down on one knee.

    ADVICE FROM THE bride

Dont sweat the small things. It will be a stressful day, but it really

shouldnt be. Truly enjoy this time with your new husband, family and friends

because it goes by so quickly.

  • WEDDING DAY 21

    THE CEREMONY

The outdoor ceremony of 180 people had a great metropolitan feel since you could see the tall buildings and the Capitol in the distance, Jenny adds.

    SPECIAL MOMENTS

Jenny was touched by the speeches delivered by her father, sisters and Matts brother. She also loved the carriage ride from the wedding to the hotel as it was similar to the one they took the night of the engagement. Matt and I were able to be alone for the first time that day. We were both so overwhelmed with love not only for each other but for our family and friends who came to celebrate with us.

    THE VENUE

The Indianapolis Public Library fulfilled this brides dream of a romantic wedding, with the ceremony and cocktail hour in the East Garden, and the reception in the main atrium. The library welcome desk was transformed into a bar and the nearby bookshelves became a natural part of the dcor.

  • 22 WEDDING DAY

    THE WEDDING THEME

Jenny had always pictured a romantic wedding with lots of candles and beautiful flowers. The bridesmaids wore soft pink floor-length dresses and the groomsmen sported charcoal grey suits.

    THE FLORAL

Cream Anna roses filled out Jennys bouquet while the bridesmaids carried pink Anna roses, pink larkspur, pink wax flower, pink hypericum berries, pink stock and pink spray roses. Pink prevailed!

    THE DRESS

Jenny chose a mermaid-style dress with lace appliqu and a sweetheart neckline. She wore her moms cathedral veil with lace appliqu that matched her dress perfectly.

    THE CAKE

Guests were treated to a red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and almond buttercream icing. Pink Anna roses of course were placed on the cake.

    THE DCOR

Soft gray table linens and soft gray chair sashes were tied on white chairs. The tables were laden with silver/gray chargers, silver napkins, candles and a variety of short and tall centerpieces. Light pink hydrangeas, tall white sticks, pink Anna roses and hypericum berries added romance and softness to the table setting.

    WHAT WE loveThe soft, romantic

    A WEDDING AT WEST BADEN

    THE PROPOSAL

Lauren wanted to wait to get married until she had graduated. Because she ended up on the extended plan, she made him wait a little longer than he might have anticipated. She had one more semester left and on Christmas day, still in her pjs due to being sick, she came downstairs to find a card she had not seen that morning. I started reading and realized he was proposing to me through the card. Before I could fully process what was going on, I looked up and Michael was on one knee in front of me holding a ring, Lauren says.

    THE VENUE

Laurens family had a tradition of going to West Baden Springs Hotel in French Lick during the holidays. In awe of the renovated hotel and the beauty of the dome, she knew that was where she wanted to get married. With the dome once touted as the Eighth Wonder of the World, who could blame her?

    THE DRESS

Vera Wang was the designer for Lauren. She knew it from the start and went to a Nashville, Tennessee boutique for an appointment. While trying some on, she noticed some commotion as the store employees started unpacking a dress that had just arrived. The store manager explained to me that she wanted me to try on this dress the minute I described what I wanted. They pulled the dress out of the box and I was immediately in love.

    WEST BADEN DETAILS

The architectural details of the resort were significant to the overall dcor design. The main medallion in the dome not only graced the 36-foot-custom dance floor but was on a coloring book page to entertain the children! Stationery design incorporated the medallion and other striking architectural gems.

    THE BANNERS

When the monogram banners hanging from the balconies and the dance floor appeared to be something that might need to be cut for budgetary reasons, their planner was determined and managed to make some changes in other areas. I have to say she was right in fighting for those things, Lauren adds. "Those two things made all the difference!

    ADVICE FROM THE bride

Hire a wedding planner, says Lauren. I dont know how I would

have made it without Monica. Monica made sure that not a single detail was missed and kept everyone in my family as

    well as Michaels happy!

    A SPECIAL MOMENT

Lauren wanted to honor her dad who had passed away in 2010 but didnt know how to make that happen. Her mom and the wedding planner devised an important men in Laurens life dance and everyone at the reception held a candle encircling the dance floor as she danced with her brother, uncle and two dear family friends. Needless to say, there were plenty of tears, she adds.

  • 36 WEDDING DAY

    LATE-NIGHT TREATS

Because Lauren and her fianc both work at Holiday World, they decided to have treats inspired by the popular park. Mini-burgers, french fries and red velvet funnel cakes were a fun surprise for guests.

    THE DCOR

While Lauren had envisioned a classic black, ivory and gold theme, her planner Monica Richard, encouraged a little more color added as a surprise. They ended up with ethereal gold and white colors for the ceremony with dramatic garnet, gold and black tones throughout the reception space under the ornate dome. The garnet and gold just happened to match Florida States colors, too.

    WHAT WE loveThe laid-back, late-night

theme park snacks created a fun contrast to the

    42 WEDDING DAY

    SPECIAL MOMENTS

Getting ready at home with Ellens entire family and all of her nieces and nephews there was important to this southern bride from South Bend. After the ceremony, they took photos in her yard, which happened to have a pear tree blossoming just in time for the early May wedding.

    THE DRESS

Ellen and her mom went to several shops in Nashville looking for a dress (with sisters looking on remotely). They were tired and a little discouraged when Kathy, Ellens mom, suggested taking a break for lunch and a drink. After relaxing a bit, they went into a quaint shop that had been converted from a dry cleaning business. Ellen saw a dress designed by Nashville-based Olia Zavozina on a mannequin that was nothing like what she had envisioned. It was simple and elegant with lightweight chemise fabric and real pearls down the chapel-length train. It was the one.

    THE THEME

The bride and groom both grew up in the South Bend area, but now live in Memphis, Tennessee where he works in finance and she is a physician assistant in orthopedics. The couple wanted an elegant Southern soire in a historic locale and the farm property couldnt have been more ideal. The barn boasts 35-foot cathedral ceilings and is supported by 100-year-old beams.

WHAT WE loveThe couples family and

friends were involved at nearly every level. From enhancing the barn to playing as the

reception band, this wedding was truly a family affair.

    THE VENUE

Father Sorin purchased the sprawling Saint Joseph's Farm on Currant Road in Granger in 1852 to produce food for the expanding University of Notre Dame. Now owned by the brides long-time friends, Paul and Cathy Blum, the facility is being renovated and retrofitted for weddings. During the renovation process, the Blums host family and friends for special receptions on their 1,400-acre property, which includes a working farm, an equestrian center, and a modern loft apartment that sleeps 14.

  • 44 WEDDING DAY

    FEATURED WEDDING

    SOUTHERN TOUCHES

The groom and groomsmens boutonnieres were made from cotton bolls and that same natural cotton was interspersed in the table arrangements. The bridesmaid bouquets contained Magnolia leaves. What could be more Southern than that? The specialty drinks were Tennessee Waffle and Southern Belle.

    MORE DCOR

The handy and inventive father of the bride made two bars out of reclaimed wood siding and old cedar shutters and fence posts. Whiskey barrels already in the barn were used for cocktail tables and Ellens sister-in-law crafted the numerous chalk boards and signage. Both the bride and grooms families helped arrange everything perfectly.

  • WEDDING DAY 45

    LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION

While the farm was a perfect fit for the vision Ellen and Stephen had for the reception, it needed a little work and the Schoenles were happy to help the Blums improve the facility for future celebrations. The bride's mother said she and Cathy Blum decided that lighting would add elegance and ambiance. A chandelier needed to be big four to five feet in diameter but it also had to be within budget. Both went out on their own and found the same brass chandelier at an antique shop in downtown Mishawaka. It was four feet wide and three-tiered. It was painted and had bling added to bring a little glamour to the venue. They also added lighting that swooped to the roof to bring the eye upward in a dramatic fashion.

    ADVICE FROM THE bride

Relax, relax, relax. Ellen says she had to tell herself this many times because

it was difficult being in Tennessee planning a wedding. But my mom was an incredible help and I could not have done it without her. So the advice I had to give myself a lot was to trust my mom because she knows me best and wants

this day to be as amazing as I do.

    NO SIBLING RIVALRY HERE

As a surprise, my siblings reworded the song Wagon Wheel as a toast/roast to Stephen and me, says Ellen. The band A Night to Remember performed with her cousin Beth (stage name Eliza) Toth as the main singer.

  • 50 WEDDING DAY

You dont have to mimic Jennifer Anistons nuptials to have a beautiful wedding that is a reflection of you and your fianc. The experts you work with caterers, planners, florists are as cost conscious as you are and have an objective point of view paired with lots of experience.

When planning my daughters wedding a few years ago, it became apparent that going over budget is one of the easier things to do in life kind of like picking chocolates out of a box; its hard to stop once you get going. The most important piece of advice I received is to make sure the couple decides what means the most to them and concentrate on making those aspects happen. Maybe flowers are your thing and you want to be surrounded by fragrant blooms all day. Go for it, but compare prices.

    BY KATHY JONAS

    Sara Ackermann Photography

  • WEDDING DAY 51

JUST A FEW TIPS TO ACHIEVE SIMPLE, AFFORDABLE AND BEAUTIFUL:

More and more brides are booking weddings on a day other than a Saturday to save money. Whether it is a Friday night buffet or a Sunday brunch, the possibilities are endless and the cost savings can be significant (in some cases by as much as 50 percent). Thursday nights are also gaining in popularity.

Plan a smaller wedding and avoid cutting something you love. Wouldnt you rather have 100 people enjoying everything you envisioned rather than 400 eating hot dogs outdoors?

Economize when you can. If your venue already has linens that coordinate with the room, you might use those and spend a little extra on something else such as some glittery, gorgeous, never-before-seen chair covers.

If a beach wedding is your dream, but the venues are booked for the summer, consider a winter/beach theme. How much time would you spend on the beach anyway? There are lots of venues with water views without the hassle of the beach (sand in the shoes not fun). The view is still beautiful and there are plenty of open weekends at hotels. Just pack some stylish faux fur. December through March weddings can result in significant cost savings.

Have your ceremony and reception at the same place. Its easier for guests and youll save on rental fees.

Do you really need photographs of dancing during the waning hours of the reception? After having looked at thousands of these, they pretty much all look the same.

Think about a full bar for the cocktail hour and switch to wine and beer and maybe a clever signature drink for the remainder of the reception.

Be strategic about the flowers. If youre having a buffet or food stations (rather than a sit-down dinner), arrangements could be placed there in lieu of the guest tables.

These cost-cutting measures can be decided at the beginning of the planning process so they are out of the way and you can move forward. Dont be afraid to ask for help from your vendors and trust your gut on the things that mean the most to you!

ASK YOUR WEDDING VENUE THESE 10 QUESTIONS TO STAY WITHIN BUDGETSelecting and securing your wedding reception venue dictates so much about your wedding; the location, the style, the photos, the attire, and of course, the budget. If youre like most brides-to-be, you have formed some vision of the setting of your reception. Maybe it was realistic, maybe it wasnt. Maybe you pulled every string possible to make it realistic. Whether you had the money or you scrounged to secure your dream venue, working it into your budget and sacrificing other details, it all pays off when you can write the check for the down payment. You breathe a sigh of reliefone of the big items on the checklist can be crossed off.

In your rush, you hastily scrawled your signature on the contract agreement. In your excitement, you neglected to read the added costs associated with the wedding venue. If this wasnt explained to you up front, it can be hard to not feel taken advantage of, especially when the venue itself was a splurge. Be warned, sometimes the venue price is only renting the facility out.

Its absolutely essential for planning purposes and peace of mind to research your venue(s), thoroughly read the contract, and to ask your vendor for clarification if you have any confusion.

    INDIANAPOLIS ARTSGARDEN Meyer Photography

  • WEDDING DAY 55

1.Are the linens and tableware included with the room rental? This includes napkins, tablecloths, flatware, stemware, plates, etc. Some venues like outdoor barns may require you to rent tables, chairs, linens and all of the accessories from a rental company. This can almost double your cost.

2.If your ceremony is being held at the same venue, what is the cost for renting microphones, sound equipment and chairs?

3.For your dance reception, will you have to rent the dance floor from the venue?

4.If youre featuring more than one entre on the menu, you will need to find out if your venue charges a split entre fee. It does require more coordination and effort on the catering staff to deliver more than one option for dinner.

    5. Will you be charged for using the venues Wifi?

    6. Is parking included? In major metropolitan areas, having your wedding downtown might mean that you or your guests will have to pay for parking.

7.Is gratuity already included in the service fee for the food and beverage staff? The verbiage on this can be hazy. Your contract may charge a percentage for a service fee for staff and then say that staff gratuity is not included. Ask what this means and if its expected to give a tip.

8.Does the venue require you hire a wedding planner? Sometimes the service staff do not have the time and capability to coordinate all of your needs during the reception. Some venues will require you to hire an in-house or off-site planner to handle the reception details.

9.Is there a cake cutting fee? Most reception locations will charge you to cut a cake that is made from an off-site baker. Cutting the cake takes time and its not an easy feat. Plus, you are using more of their plates and services like serving the cake and washing the dishes.

10.This is a big one; does your venue require you to purchase their liability insurance? Sometimes couples can rely on their own insurance and sometimes venues require you to purchase theirs.

A Fresh ArrangementA STYLE SHOOT THAT TRANSFORMS CHAOS INTO BEAUTY

  • WEDDING DAY 59

    THE VISION

Every space has its own story that can be incorporated into your special day. This style shoot A Fresh Arrangement plays with turning ordinary, every day spaces and the chaos within them into a fresh, personalized event.

    THE VENUES

Katherine Coplen of Nuvo said it best: Locally Grown Gardens is a collection of whats best in life, culled from a lifetime of caring deeply about ingredients, aesthetics and community. A chef-owned and -operated farmers market, Locally Grown Gardens and the Surroundings were the venues of choice because this idea of lovingly curating a space and what is inside is exactly what we love to see in every wedding!

    THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES

Each gown was selected for its classic lines and more modern, organic textures. The intent was for a look that was high fashion but also sophisticated and modern.

    THE DECOR

We simply played with the beautiful chaos within an everyday space. Simple decor was implemented to magnify the elegance while still letting the inherent elements take center stage. The arrangements were designed to be fused with the already-present decor to give a new, more sophisticated look to the space, while still maintaining the organic nature of both spaces.

    THE MAKEUP

Keeping with the bright, airy and feminine feel of the locations, the makeup colors were chosen to keep the look very soft and feminine. Peaches, warm neutrals, and plums were used to enhance the brides eye color and to coordinate with the colors in the floral arrangements.

    THE HAIR

Because we wanted a timeless look and for the details of the accessories to emerge, all of our brides wore their hair swept off their face.

    THE DESSERT

The dessert took on a new twist with bite-size whoopie pies. These handheld desserts were a delicate fusion between elegant macarons and simple cupcakes.

    GABRIELLE CHEIKH PHOTOGRAPHY

    THE FLORAL

All of the floral arrangements were selected based on what was in season. This methodology ensures that each event is unique and allows for the most beautiful selection available each week. This floral work was a collaborative effort with nature and seasonal flower choices to keep each look fresh and relevant.

A Fresh Arrangement used roses and garden roses for their subtle color range. Ruffled petals were blended with spring beauties like bleeding heart, foxglove, bridal wreath spirea, poppies and other natural spring foliagesall the tender, delicate textures that are only available seasonally. Fluffy favorites like peonies and ranunculus were outstanding in the season and added just the right amount of texture to blend with the spaces.

    THE VISION

Often times, brides limit their fall weddings to autumn-inspired colors. We gained inspiration from the entire color palette and the garden scenery, provided by the venue. To incorporate an upcoming 2016 wedding trend, we used bronze elements mixed with other metals and wooden accents. This wedding is a combination of elegant, repurposed and romantic design styles.

    THE VENUE

The Willows on Westfield, located in Broad Ripple, was a perfect fit for our inspiration. The garden chapel and the lodge on the water gave our shoot a variety of backdrops.

    THE PAPER

Pink Poppy Ink was inspired by nature and the pops of color for the weddings paper that complement Indianas fall color schemesimple, fresh and fun.

  • 68 WEDDING DAY

    THE CEREMONY

The antique window pane and shutters surrounded by hanging cloches filled with seeded eucalyptus, fillers and pops of colorful florals, was a beautiful backdrop for the bride and groom, emphasizing the I do space.

    THE SWEETHEART TABLE

The intent behind the sweetheart table is to be a romantic and personal area for the bride and groom to celebrate their day. The table is adorned with colorful roses, thistle and stock on top of a seeded eucalyptus garland and paired with a golden ampersand sign.

  • WEDDING DAY 69

    THE DCOR

Design Group did an outstanding job staging all of the elements that make this wedding a stunning event. Personal touches add to the overall experience, especially when guests can learn more about their favorite couple. We added personal sentiments to the brides private suite that were reflective of her style and of the autumn season. Outside, we filled an antique suitcase with family blankets for guests to grab as the night got cooler, along with their favorite Sun King beer from the tasting bar.

    THE BOUQUETS

These fun, colorful, and yet, elegant bouquets were filled with a variety of roses, antique hydrangeas, yarrow, thistle and seeded eucalyptus.

    BEHIND THE SCENES

    THE TUXES

The groom wore a three-piece tan tux with ivory accents. The best man tied in the mocha color for his vest and tie to match the maid of honors dress.

    THE DRESSES

MH Pomander Bridal dressed the bride in a satin-faced organza, Magnolia gown from Carol Hannah. Her accompanying jewelry was from the internationally acclaimed Paris by Debra Moreland. Bella Bridesmaids chose a warm neutral perfect for any fall floral! This mocha tulle gown by Amsale effortlessly sweeps to the floor in a simple and sophisticated way.

  • WEDDING DAY 71

    THE CAKE

A tiered, naked cake set the scene with a mixture of peanut butter, apple and dulce de leche flavors, detailed with festive caramel apples.

    THE HAIR & MAKEUP

Simple, fresh and romantic makeup accentuated the girls natural beauty, while both had elegant, upswept hair.

FIND MORE WEDDINGDAY PLANNING TOOLS ON WEDDINGDAY-ONLINE.COM!

    AFTER THE WEDDING

    changing your last name

    PLANNING TOOL

Your newlywed bliss can quickly come to an end when it comes time to endure the dreaded task of changing your last name. The legal process can often take the romance out of taking your significant others last name. If you get yourself organized with the proper documents, the process can be less strenuous, allowing you to continue to revel in your newlywed happiness.

    1. GET THE ORIGINAL MARRIAGE LICENSE FROM THE CLERKS OFFICE

The original license should come from the clerks office where your license was filed. One should automatically be sent to you a couple weeks after the wedding. The original document should have a raised seal and your new last name. Also, its a good idea to request copies.

    2. REQUEST A NEW SOCIAL SECURITY CARD

If you visit the Social Security Administrations website, you can find an application for a change of name here. This is a free service. Print the application, fill it out, and include any required documents. You can either take your application to a nearby Social Security office or mail it in. You should receive your new card with your new last name in approximately 10 days.

    3. APPLY FOR A NEW LICENSE AT THE BMV

Getting a new license from the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles office requires a few documents, namely your old license, the original marriage license and your new Social Security card. Remember to change your address if you have moved after the wedding.

    4. CHANGE YOUR LAST NAME WITH YOUR HR DEPARTMENT

When your new Social Security card comes in the mail, meet with your HR manager at work to switch your name over. This includes payroll, 401k, your insurance benefits, stocks etc.

    5. UPDATE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION

The easiest way to do this is to visit your local branch in person. Take your new license, your marriage license and your new Social Security card, and ask for your name to be changed on your account. Request new checks, debit cards and credit cards with your new name.

    6. UPDATE YOUR LAST NAME ON OTHER MISCELLANEOUS ACCOUNTS

As time goes on, you will remember more accounts that your last name must be changed on. Remember to keep all of the necessary documents within reach to easily change your name.
