To be married in a Church you need tofulfil certain criteria (by law) and it is ourgenuine desire to help and support you inyour application. This leaflet will outlinewhat the requirements are, what youroptions are in the way of services andhow to apply for them.

We would strongly encourage you toconsider coming along to our Churchservices. This gives us the opportunity toget to know you, and it will help you tofamiliarise yourself with the Church andthe ‘spiritual nature’ of our servicesbefore the BIG DAY!

Please do not hesitate to contact theParish Office (Monday - Friday from 9 am- 1 pm) if you have any further questions.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTSSt Andrew’s is both an Anglican andMethodist Church and when applying formarriage each denomination has differentrequirements and conditions under thelaw of this country:

A banns application / wedding form mustbe completed by you both, this will bedone when you make your initial enquiry.

RE-MARRIAGEThe breakdown of marriages is a sadreality in society today. As a Church wecan offer marriage of divorcees withincertain circumstances. Those wishing toapply for marriage after a divorce shouldbe aware that interviews must be held andinformation collected before permission toproceed is obtained.

MARRIAGE BLESSINGThose who choose a Civil Marriage (in aRegistry Office) can also apply to theChurch for a Service of Prayer andDedication after a Civil Marriage. This issimilar to a Wedding but its starting pointis you are already married and we nowcome to call upon God for his blessing.
