We are sorry to have to announce the loss David Hague, a long time resident of the Dock who passed away a few days ago following a short illness, after a long period of ill health. Many of you will have seen him about as he loved to walk around the Dock and Syon Park. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Following a tragic accident on the Dock, Alan Sclare, of Otho Court sadly died. He was quite a character and he too will be sadly missed.

Trees

Many of you will have noticed that tree contractors working for Ballymore recently removed trees from Dock Road. This took us as much by surprise as it did the residents! Apologies to those residents who were inconvenienced by the road closure – we trust that this will not happen again. Our own contractors have now finished all the planned tree works on the Dock.

Following our survey regarding the type of street lights that residents thought the Dock should purchase, your favourite is now being installed. These LED light replacements will be appearing around the Dock over the next few months and comments so far have been very positive as light from them will not only be more efficient , but will also generate less light pollution.

Street Lighting Replacement

Residents’ Comments / Housekeeping Issues During August we had a blocked bin chute on the Dock nearly every day.

Last weekend a chute in Numa Court was so badly blocked it was not possible to clear it until the following Monday. The chute was blocked with a suitcase! (Not even a cabin size case fits in the chute). The case was followed by a magazine rack, briefcase, 2 pairs of boots, 6 pairs of trousers and a serving tray. Residents were seriously inconvenienced for 4 days and our cleaners spent over 3 hours clearing the obstruction. SO PLEASE - If it doesn’t fit in the hopper, or the hopper door won’t close then put the item in the bin room.

Balcony drains – the recent heavy rain caused several balconies to flood because the drains were blocked, or covered. In some cases this resulted in damage to the property below – which could have been avoided. Please check your balcony drains and make sure that they are kept clear.

Cycle thefts – during August we had a couple of attempted cycle thefts from around the Dock. We suggest to protect your bikes you use a D lock attached to the main body of the frame and not just through the wheel.

Thoughtful Parking

You may have noticed that we have specifically placed a planter on the bend of Augustus Close, so that people don’t park there as it’s a particularly dangerous blind spot. You can see from the photos above how dangerous it is. If you are parking a van, the overhang caused can also block footpaths for disabled and push chair users. We don’t want to have to ask the Council to make anymore areas double yellow lines or hatching, but if we continue to receive complaints regarding dangerous parking we will be forced to do so. So please think about where you park.
