PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Twenty two days until Christmas! The year is certainly coming to an end rapidly. Last week and this week I have been getting to know the incoming Year 7. They look like a delightful group of young people. Kyogle High School continues to provide opportunities for our HSC leavers to follow their dreams. We have had students gain early entry to Southern Cross University and we have had Year 11 students in 2013 begin their university education through Head Start. Fourteen Year 12, 2012 students gained early entry to University of New England. Congratulations to Jeremy Clarke, Patrick Donnolley, Keleisha Ferguson, Nicola Fletcher, Nyree Flower, Nikki Kenman, Sean Kenman, Rebecca O’Reilly, Ebony Pratt, Jocinta Sleeth, Michael Stevens, Evie Stuart-Davies, Trevor Vail and Natalie Wilson. Congratulations to Nyree Flower who has been nominated for the University of NSW Academic Achievement Award as the most outstanding student 2011/2012 at Kyogle High School. Congratulations to Michael Stevens who has been awarded the University of Newcastle Year 12 Award for Academic Excellence. This award comprises a certificate and the opportunity to receive a Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship for $2000.00 if Michael enrols at the University of Newcastle. We have the last P & C meeting of the year on Thursday 6 December at 5.30pm in the Common Room. Everyone is welcome. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Michael Donnolley and his team for the work they have put in supporting us. Have a great week. Mrs Janeen Silcock Principal

From the Deputy’s Desk The year is fast coming to an end and is some ways all too fast as there seems to be so much still left to do before the end of the of the school year. Yesterday we had the Year 6 students who will be our Year 7 cohort for 2013 in the school for their Orientation Day where they experienced what a day at high school is like. They attended classes in Maths, Geography, Art, Indonesian, PE, and Science and managed to find their way from various classrooms without getting too lost! Thank you to Mr Rasborsek, their Year Adviser, for the work he put into ensuring the day was a success. Next week is the Formal Assemblies to celebrate student achievement for Semester 2. The Year 7, 8, 9 awards will be held at 12 noon on Thursday 13 December followed the next day with the Year 10 and 11 awards also starting at 12 noon. Students will be advised if they are receiving an award and we welcome all parents and carers to these special Assemblies. Monday and Tuesday of Week 11 is end of year activities time. Thank you to Ms Tulloch and Ms McDonough for the effort that it has taken to provide students with a range of exciting and stimulating activities. A reminder to students that if your activity has a cost attached, that it is important that it is paid for as soon as possible.

Mrs Gae Masters—Deputy Principal

Year 10 Sydney Trip Our trip to Sydney started on the train from Casino arriving in Sydney by 7.30 am ready to start our sightseeing adventure. We went to the Sydney Aquarium, Wildlife World, Imax Theatre, Dinner at Dietnes, Taronga Zoo, the Lyric Theatre to see “Legally Blonde”, Powerhouse Museum, Jetboating on the Harbour and walked around The Rocks, Circular Quay and Darling Harbour. We walked many miles and the students and teachers had a wonderful time despite being very tired on the trip home. I would like to thank Mr Adam Deszecsar, Mr Dave Stewart and Ms Wendy Mitchell who attended this excursion with me and helped make this trip a pleasant one. Ms Lindy Ruangsri—Organising Teacher

Teachers from Vietnam Monday 26 November saw 4 teachers from Vietnam and a lecturer from Southern Cross University visit our school and classrooms. A heavily packed itinerary included experiencing subjects such as History, Indonesian, Wood, Metal, Drama, Maths, Quicksmart, Maths and Literacy, PDHPE and Agriculture. Our visitors left each classroom feeling emotionally charged, with teachers putting their “personalities into their teaching”. They described our students as well behaved and absolutely enjoyed their time at Kyogle High School. Thank you so very much to the teachers and students involved in the day.
